     John Joseph Bagwell was born on 6 June 1917.1,2 He was the son of John Bagwell and Anna Griffin. John Joseph Bagwell married Alice Round on 12 May 1941 at Cook County, Illinois.2 He was assigned to the AM-135 Merganser and was still mustering to this ship in 31 Mar 1943.
USS Merganser (AM-135) was a minesweeper in the United States Navy during World War II. She was named for the duck, merganser.

Originally the commercial trawler Annapolis, Merganser was built in 1937 by the Bethlehem Steel Corp., Quincy, Massachusetts; acquired by the U.S. Navy as Ocean through Maritime Commission requisition purchase from the General Sea Foods Corp., Boston, Massachusetts, 3 January 1942; renamed Merganser 18 January 1942; converted by Bethlehem Steel Atlantic Works, East Boston, Massachusetts; and commissioned 23 May 1942, Lt. Arthur S. Johnson, USNR, in command.

Assigned to the 1st Naval District, Merganser operated from the Woods Hole Section Base, patrolling the waters off New England, until February 1944.

On 9 Aug 1943, he mustered to YMS 231, which was a 136' class Motor Minesweeper.
USS Firecrest (AMS-10/YMS-231) was an YMS-1-class minesweeper of the YMS-135 subclass acquired by the U.S. Navy for clearing coastal minefields during World War II.

Firecrest was laid down 5 October 1942 by Frank L. Sample, Jr., Boothbay Harbor, Maine; launched, 3 April 1943; completed and commissioned USS YMS-231, 6 August 1943.

She was decommissioned in February 1947; named Firecrest and reclassified as a Motor minesweeper, AMS-10, 18 February 1947. He enlisted in the US Navy on 7 December 1942 during World War II and was released November 13, 1945. John Joseph Bagwell died on 13 September 1995 in Lansing, Illinois, at age 78.1,2 He was buried on 16 September 1995 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Cook County, Illinois.1,2

Jeremy Patrick Bagwell, 28, Kokomo, was taken from us when he was tragically killed on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, while working on a road construction project. He was born June 16, 1982 in Howard County, the son of Brad Bagwell & Patricia (Varnau) Bagwell. Jeremy married Ashley Young on December 31, 2005 in Las Vegas, NV.

Jeremy graduated from Eastern High School where he participated in football and track. He loved classic country music, especially, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash. He was a very simple, honest and hard working man. He always gave 110% to whatever he did in life.

Jeremy lived his life devoted to his family. He was an amazing husband and words cannot define the relationship he had with his kids. Every day was spent with his wife and kids, as he loved them more than life itself.

Jeremy leaves behind his wife, Ashley Young Bagwell, and three sons, Brody, 3 ½, and twins Clay and Cole, 23 months; his mother, Patricia Bagwell and his father and step-mother, Brad and Karla Bagwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Christopher and Roxanne Bagwell, a sister, Erin Bagwell; a step-sister, Summer Wilson; grandparents, Blaine and Bonnie Bagwell, Mary Varnau, and Wilbur and Carol Varnau; his father-in-law, Oscar Young, with whom he was very close; mother-in-law, Brenda Taylor; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his sister Jennifer Bagwell.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 at Shirley & Stout, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road, with his uncle Bart Bagwell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jeremy Bagwell Memorial Fund at First Farmer Bank.1

Erin Bagwell, 32, left this world on Thursday, October 8, 2020, to join her mother, sister, and brother in Heaven. She was born January 17, 1988 and was the daughter of Brad Bagwell and Patricia Varnau Julius. She had long ago accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Erin was a 2006 graduate of Eastern High School and lived most of her life in Greentown. She enjoyed playing the violin in school. Erin attended Ivy Tech. She loved working with small children, working at Bona Vista to help with the care of the children there. She also helped periodically at Crossroads Community Church.

She was active at Jerome Christian Church in Greentown and loved attending there. She had many friends there, young and old.

Erin is survived by her father, Brad (Janine) Bagwell; step-father, Ron Julius; her brother Chris (Roxanne) Bagwell; her aunts, Belinda (Richard) Sezbenski, Benita (Stan) Zirkle, Beth Jaenicke, Janny Varnau, Cathy Kurtz, and Jeanne (Robert) Reames; her uncles, Brent Bagwell, Bart (Lisa) Bagwell, Mike (Susan) Varnau, Jim (Janet) Varnau, Steve (Michelle) Varnau, and Scott (Jenny) Varnau.

Erin was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Varnau Julius; her sister, Jennifer Michelle Bagwell; her brother, Jeremy Patrick Bagwell; her uncle, Vic Varnau; and her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Erin enjoyed being an aunt and having several cousins. Her nephews are Brody Bagwell, Clay Bagwell, and Cole Bagwell. Her nieces are Brianna Bagwell and Samantha Bagwell. She had cousins living all over the country.

Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Jerome Christian Church, 9535 E. 100 S., Greentown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, in Greentown, next to her mother and brother. Visitation with the family will be on from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities - Indianapolis, or Bona Vista Programs in Kokomo.
