In January of 1949, Wallace was sent to Korea with the 25th Infantry. He was the first Madisonian to be killed during the conflict.

The death of the first Madison resident to be killed in action in the Korean war was reported Thursday night by the defense department.
Lieut. Wallace Edward Goff, 25, 192 Ryan st., son of Maj and Mrs. Frederic J. Goff, 118 S. First st, was killed Aug. 22 according to a telegram received here by hia parents.
Attended East High Lieut. Goff was bom in Madison, attended East high school, and was graduated from Jerseyville high school, Jerseyville, Ill., in June, 1942. He attended the University of Wisconsin and was employed in the Madison city finance office. He served in the navy for three and a half years during World War II as a gunner's mate, second class and received a commission in the army in January, 1949.
Sent to Korea after four months at Ft. Bennlng, Ga., he was transferred to the Far Eastern command and sent to Korea soon after fighting began.
His wife, the former Virginia Halder, and bis 2-year-old son, Williarn Wallace, joined him in JapaIn June and still live there.Lieut. Goff is survived beside his parents, wife, and son; by two brothers, Frederic J., Jr., member of the Madison marine reserve unit recently alerted, and Richard Nelson Goff, Madison, recently discharged from the army.

Graveside services for -Lieut. Wallace E. Goff, 25, son of Maj. and Mrs. Frederic J. Goff, 2617 Commercial ave., who was killed in action in Korea, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Forest Hill cemetery, the Rev. A. H. Lambright officiating.
Military rites will be conducted by the Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) unit. Lieut Goff was the first Madison resident to be killed in action in the Korean war and was the first of Madison's war dead .to be returned. A member of the 35th regiment, 25th infantry, division Lieut. Goff was killed Aug. 22, 1950, at Honan.
He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action.
A native of Madison, Lieut. Goff attended East high school-and was graduated from Jerseyville, Ill., high school in June, 1942. He attended the University of Wisconsin and was employed in the city finance office.
During World War II he served 3 1/2 years as a gunner's mate, second class, in the Navy. He received an army commission in January 1949.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2023, with the funeral following at 5 p.m. all at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. Pastor Pete Ramie will officiate. Burial will be at Little Pine Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to Goshen Church of God.
