Elisha Goff served in the War of 1812 from Clark Co., Kentucky, as a private of 2 Regiment (Jennings') Kentucky Volunteers. He was a captain in the militia and drilled several companies for the defense of the Commonwealth. [2nd Regiment, Kentucky Militia - Organized September 1, 1812. Lt. Colonel William Jennings, commanding. 3rd Company - Captain Tunstall Quarles. from "Kentucky in the War of 1812" by Anderson Chenault Quisenberry, 1969, page 180.] [Listed in regiment list for the "Kentucky Soldiers of the War of 1812" compiled by Minne S. Elisha was employed to assist in carving out the road from Richmond, Kentucky, to Mount Sterling, Kentucky, which in all probability was the first public highway in Clark County, and one of the first in the state of Kentucky.
Elisha was one of the first men to discover the value of the iron ores of Red River, and was instrumental in establishing the first iron furnace in that region. A friend in Virginia had sent Elisha some timothy seed. These were sown on a plat near Indian Fields, Kentucky, and became the first timothy meadow in Kentucky, the soil of that area being well adpted to that type of grass.
Elisha and Nancy are enumerated in the 1820 and 1830 censuses of Clark Co., Kentucky. Nancy is enumerated in the 1840 through 1860 censuses of Clark Co., Kentucky. Both are buried in the Goff Cemetery near Indian Fields, Kentucky.
