Mrs. Nellie Blanche Evans Bagwell, 73, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away June 18, 2009 at Cherokee Medical Center, Centre, Alabama. She was born on October 15, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Mr. Clyde Evans and the late Mrs. Ima Jewell Couch Evans. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia. She retired from Douglas County School Transportation as a school bus driver with thirty years of service. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved bowling. She is also preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Bagwell, daughter, Cathy Sue Bagwell, son Danny Edward Bagwell, sister, Mary Frances Camp, and a brother, Johnny Evans. She is survived by a daughter and son in-law, Cindy and Wandel Bragg of Douglasville, son, Randy Bagwell of Douglasville, sisters and brother in-laws, Ruth Fretwell of Buford, Georgia; Ann and Raymond Long of Douglasville, Jean Dukes of Bill Arp, Verna Evans of Douglasville, and Patricia and Collis Spivey of Douglasville, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 4:00PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Marbut officiating. Interment will follow at Bright Star United Methodist Cemetery in Douglasville. The family will receive friends Friday June 19, 2009 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel. Thelma Lela Bagwell died on 4 October 1992 in Volusia County, Florida, at age 82.¹ She was buried at Shady Rest Cemetery, Holly Hill, Volusia County, Florida.^1,2

     Robert Vance Johnson was born on 20 August 1911 in Texas. He married Thelma Lela Bagwell, daughter of William Madison Bagwell and Nova Alla Blanton, on 21 September 1930 at Memphis, Hall County, Texas.¹ Robert Vance Johnson and Thelma Lela Bagwell lived in 1954 in Washington, D.C. Robert Vance Johnson died on 12 December 2002 in Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina, at age 91.

She married Captain John Wesley Bagwell, son of William Madison Bagwell and Nova Alla Blanton, on 5 June 1948. Barbara Viola Herter died on 25 June 2021 at age 92


Lake Lure - Barbara Viola Herter Bagwell was born in Orange County Memorial Hospital in New Jersey on January 21, 1929. Barbie grew up in the Great Depression and was never scared of a little challenging work or rolling up her sleeves - something that you couldn't help but notice even into her 90s.

She met her match in the summer of 1948, and on June 5th that year, she married John Wesley Bagwell. Barbie and JW were best friends - partners in business and life. They sold JW's Buick convertible to start their Flower shop in Daytona Beach, Florida, and grew the business over the years with an unmatched work ethic and love for Jesus.

They raised two children, John Bagwell and Lynn Bagwell, who were an extra pair of hands for Bagwell Florist shop and the most loved employees at the store.

Barbara lived a life full of love with a passion for Jesus, and telling everyone was her life mission. Barbie loved to serve others at Lake Side Chapel and Chimney Rock Baptist Church in Lake Lure and wore many hats on different days of the week with a smile on her face and joy in her heart. She loved her friends, family, friends of the family, and strangers on the street - Barbara was Grammy to so many different people.

We will miss Barbara Bagwell and can smile knowing she is again with her JW in the presence of the heavenly father. She spent her life following Jesus, loving others, and living the Barbie way. Barbara is survived by son John Wesley Bagwell Jr. and his wife Brenda, and son Wesley Bagwell. Her daughter Lynn Brewer and husband Dickie Brewer and their four sons John Barclay, Paul Barclay and wife Katy, Rich Brewer and wife Katie, and Josh Brewer and his wife Laura.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday, June 30, 2021 with Rev. Alex Heafner and Rev. Gene Daggerhart officiating. A reception will follow the service.

     Jerod Allen Bagwell is the son of John Burton Bagwell and Cindy Lee Demoss.¹ Jerod Allen Bagwell married Pamela Sue Kiper on 20 April 2018.¹

     John Herman Gerhardt Oetgen Jr. was born on 16 December 1917 in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.^1,2,3 He was the son of John Herman Gerhardt Oetgen and Janie J. Gould.^4,2,3,5 John Herman Gerhardt Oetgen Jr. appeared on the 1920 United States Federal Census for Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, enumerated on 3 January 1920.² He appeared on the 1940 United States Federal Census for Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, enumerated on 10 April 1940.³ He served in the US Navy during World War II.^6,1 He married Mary Bernice Beam on 19 September 1943 at Kirkwood Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia.^6,4 John Herman Gerhardt Oetgen Jr. died on 14 January 1993 in DeKalb Medical Center, Atlanta, DeKalb County, Georgia, at age 75 of complications from pneumonia.¹ He's obituary was recorded in The Atlanta Constitution (Page 24), Atlanta, Georgia, in 16 January 1993.⁶ He was buried at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, DeKalb County, Georgia.¹

     As of circa 1940,her married name was Oetgen. Mary Bernice Beam married John Herman Gerhardt Oetgen Jr., son of John Herman Gerhardt Oetgen and Janie J. Gould, on 19 September 1943 at Kirkwood Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia.^1,2 Mary Bernice Beam died on 11 January 2006. She was buried on 14 January 2006 at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, DeKalb County, Georgia.³
