Lorene Bagwell Shook, age 90, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee passed away at home, November 9th, 2006, after a lengthy illness of two incurable diseases.
Lorene completed high school at the head of her class in Berry, Alabama and later married her husband, Floyd Keith Shook. They came to Oak Ridge in 1943, where her husband became employed in the nuclear industry.
Both were charter members of the New York Avenue Church of Christ, formerly Cedar Hill congregation.
Lorene's hobbies were growing flowers and knitting. She was known as "the geranium lady on Utah Avenue".
Mrs. Shook worked for the A & P Tea Company for many years. She later was a needlework instructor at the "Knitting Nook" for 27 years, where she taught hundreds the art of knitting and needlepoint. This career led to an assignment for NASA. Lorene and other ladies were asked to knit protective pads for the return of rock samples from the Apollo 16 moon flight. An Oak Ridger article called them the "Astro-Knits".
Lorene was a member of her church quilting group, where much charity work was done for poor people of the area. Her life spanned an era from oxen-drawn wagons to making something that went to the moon.

Mrs. Shook was devoted to her church and family and loved them both deeply.
