     Ruza Ronchevic also went by the name of Rose. She was born on 28 December 1921 in Vratnik, Yugoslavia.1 She was Roman Catholic and actually baptized Rosa Ronchevic. Evidently, she did not like being called Rosa and wanted to be called Ruza which means rose.2 Ruza was deported to Auschwicz, Germany (Concentration Camp) in February 1943. Although she was Catholic, she was also slavic and was picked-up during curfew to provide free slave labor to support the German war effort. Ruza was tattooed 24,599 and assigned to Birkenau which was the site of the crematoriums. Rather than return to Yugoslavia she remained in Nuremberg at a displaced persons camp.1,2 She married Lester Leroy Bagwell, son of Parker Scott Bagwell and Hazel Dell Layden, in 1948 at Nurnberg, Bavaria, Germany. General Abrams allowed Lester to marry Ruza because he was a decorated war hero.1,2 As of 1948,her married name was Bagwell. Came to the United States.1 Became a US citizen.1 Ruza Ronchevic died on 18 February 2007 in Eastampton, Burlington County, New Jersey, at age 85.1 She was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia.1
