Jan. 5, 1937 - Oct. 24 2016 Shelba Jean (Mayfield) Bagwell, age 79 and a lifetime native of the Corner Community, passed away on Monday October 24, 2016 at Cordova Rehabilitation Center in Cordova, Alabama. She was born on January 5, 1937 in Corner, Alabama to Andy and Effie Mayfield. Shelba grew up in Corner and graduate from Corner in 1954. After high school, she worked in downtown Birmingham, Alabama for one year and lived in a dorm-like apartment where she loved to ride the trolley to work and back. She often recalled that year with fondness because it was the only year in her life away from the Corner community. Shelba married Jerry D. Bagwell on April 23, 1955 and they were happily married for over 48 years until Jerry passed away in 2003. Shelba was a devoted member of numerous organizations in the Corner area and an exceptional alumnus of Corner High School. She enjoyed cooking for and spending time with all her family and friends. She always made time for people in need. She is survived by her loving brother, Danny Ray Mayfield of Corner, three sons whom she loved dearly; Tim (Pam) Bagwell of Corner, Tommy (DeAnna) Bagwell of Corner, and Terry (Donna) Bagwell of Hoover, Alabama. Shelba adored her eight grandchildren; Kimberly Bagwell, Brian (Kristen) Bagwell, Trey Bagwell, Haley (Matt) Scallions, Kaitlyn Bagwell, Katie Rae Wilson, Susanna Bagwell, and Caroline Bagwell. She was blessed to have three great grandchildren; London, Rex, and Banner, and loved numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry D. Bagwell, her parents; Andy and Effie Mayfield, and brother, Joe Mayfield. Funeral service will be held in the New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home chapel on Thursday October 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm. The family will be greeting friends and relatives for Visitation beginning at 12:00 pm. Pastor Brian Bagwell will preside over the funeral. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery.
