Arlis Roy Bagwell died on 4 April 2011 at age 87 NEW ALBANY - Arlis Roy Bagwell, 87, died Monday, April 4, 2011, at Magnolia Place in New Albany. He was born August 13, 1923, in Pontotoc County to Rufus Elmo Bagwell and Rachel Linder Johnson Bagwell. He served in WWII in the Army as a military policeman in India, Africa, Tinian Island and in the Western Pacific Campaign. He was an artist, a trapper, an antique dealer, a farmer and a sawmill owner and operator. He enjoyed playing and watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pontotoc.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Tutor Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Robert Weldon, Bro. Jody Rock and Bro. Ronnie Galloway officiating. Burial will be in Oak Forest Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Virginia Motee Patterson Bagwell; one son, Kelly (Donna) Bagwell; three daughters, Wilda Weldon (Bro. Robert) of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Neva Nolley (Gerald) of Poolville and Denita Sneed (Harold) of Pontotoc; one brother, Carrel (Louise) Bagwell of Pontotoc; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Rufus Elmo Bagwell; his mother, Rachel Linder Johnson Bagwell; three brothers, William, Albert and Edward, all of Pontotoc; and three sisters, Leoan Bagwell, Alma Watts and Mamie Pennington, all of Pontotoc.

Pallbearers will be Balford Patterson, Ricky Bagwell, Billy Bagwell, Michael Watts, Gary Morman and Barry Bagwell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carrel Bagwell, Dexter Pennington and Noel Watts.

Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.

PONTOTOC – Carroll Welton Bagwell, 85, passed away at Memphis V.A. Medical Center in Memphis. He was born to Elmo and Linder Johnson Bagwell on Sept. 9, 1928, in Pontotoc. He married Sarah Louise Hood Bagwell on Nov. 14, 1955. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He served our country in the U.S. Army. He was a retired farmer and a wonderful dad.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Inmon and Bro. Bradley Bagwell officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Forest Cemetery. Baldwin Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves behind his wife, Louise Bagwell; one son, Barry (Lisa) Bagwell; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Leone Bagwell, Mammie Pennington and Almar Watts Bagwell; and four brothers, Arlis Bagwell, Edward Bagwell, Albert Bagwell and William Bagwell.

John Etha Bagwell married Cordia Ladale Westmoreland, daughter of Jack Westmoreland and Seleta Roe, after 1915.      Cordia Ladale Westmoreland was born on 8 October 1902 in Pontotoc County, Mississippi.² She was the daughter of Jack Westmoreland and Seleta Roe. As of after 1915,her married name was Bagwell. Mrs. Cordie W. Bagwell, age 89, died Tuesday, March 26 1991 at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. Browning Funeral Home, Pontotoc, was in charge of services which were held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Houlka, with the Rev. Bobby Long officiating.

The daughter of Jack Westmoreland and Salitta Rae, she was born in Pontotoc County and lived most of her life in Chickasaw County. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Opal Bynum and Lovis Holladay, both of Houlka; five grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Pallbearers were her grandson, David Cothran, Brian Cothran, Jamie Holladay, Jeremy Holladay, Scott Lovelace and Wesley Lovelace.

Mrs. Bynum was a native of Parkin, Arkansas and the daughter of the late John Itha and Cordia Ladale Westmoreland Bagwell. She was retired and was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents, her only son, Dennis Cothran, who passed away five years ago and her sister, Lovis Holladay.

Survivors include her husband, Van Robert Bynum of Oxford; two grandsons, Brian Cothran of Cincinnati, Ohio and David Cothran of Texas; one great granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Cothran of Cincinnati, Ohio; two nephews, Larry Holladay of Houlka and Johnny Holladay of Stutgard, Arkansas; two nieces, Debby Brian of Ripley, Tennessee and Glenda Lovelace of Memphis, Tennessee.¹ She was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Houlka, Chickaswa County, Mississippi.¹

     Lovis Bagwell was born on 19 April 1924 in Parkin, Cross County, Arkansas.¹ She was the daughter of John Etha Bagwell and Cordia Ladale Westmoreland. As of after 1940,her married name was Holladay.² Lovis Bagwell married John Wesley "Bus" Holladay after 1940.² Lovis Bagwell died on 24 March 1992 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, at age 67.¹ She was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Houlka, Chickasaw County, Mississippi.¹

     Almamae Elizabeth Clowers was also known as Ilma Clowers. She was born on 11 August 1905 in Mississippi.¹ Her married name was Bagwell. She married Samuel Bagwell, son of James Paylor Bagwell and Alma Frances Staten. Almamae Elizabeth Clowers and Samuel Bagwell lived in 1940 in Tyronza, Cross County, Arkansas. Almamae Elizabeth Clowers died on 11 November 1981 in Winters, Yolo County, California, at age 76.¹ She was buried at Cottonwood Cemetery, Winters, Yolo County, California.¹

     James Earnie Bagwell was born on 16 June 1925 in Pontotoc, Pontotoc County, Mississippi. He was the son of Samuel Bagwell and Almamae Elizabeth Clowers. James Earnie Bagwell married Oddie Jewel May on 27 October 1945 at Cross County, Arkansas. James Earnie Bagwell died on 16 June 1992 in Quitman, Cleburne County, Arkansas, at age 67. He was buried at Fairbanks Cemetery, Fairbanks, Van Buren County, Arkansas.

     Buron Everett Bagwell was born on 23 May 1927 in Pontotoc, Pontotoc County, Mississippi.¹ He was the son of Samuel Bagwell and Almamae Elizabeth Clowers. Buron Everett Bagwell married Christine Jones on 29 June 1946 at Arkansas. Buron Everett Bagwell and Christine Jones were divorced on 25 July 1947 at St. Francis County, Arkansas. Buron Everett Bagwell married Jo Ann Keeling on 9 August 1952 at Reno, Nevada. Buron Everett Bagwell died on 8 September 2000 in Ada, Oklahoma, at age 73.¹ He was buried at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma.¹

     Jo Ann Keeling was born on 3 October 1935 in Ada, Oklahoma.¹ As of 9 August 1952,her married name was Bagwell. Services for Jo Ann Bagwell, 74, Galey, are 2 p.m. Friday at Criswell Chapel, Toby Ross officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Thursday evening at Criswell Funeral Home.Mrs. Bagwell died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at her home. She was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Ada to Nathan and Susie Palmer Keeling. She attended school at Galey and Asher and she and her family moved back to Ada in 1982 from California. She worked as a nurse's aide and later retired from Solo Cup Company. She was a member of Galey Church of Christ. She married Buron Bagwell Aug. 9, 1952. He died Sept. 8, 2000.Survivors include a son, Jerrell Bagwell and wife Jan Ivey, Galey; three daughters, Karen Eger and husband Montie, Galey; Diane Duay and husband Michael, Ogden, Utah; and Patty McCaskey, of the home; one brother, Wilburn Keeling and wife Denzil, Galey; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son, Verl Lynn Bagwell, a great-grandson, Mason Gregory, and three brothers.Bearers are Kevin Spencer, Kimberly Kimmel, Maegan Gregory, Jeremy Bagwell, Jerrell Bagwell Jr., and Joe Bagwell.
