The New Orleans-class cruisers were the last U.S. cruisers built to the specifications and standards of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922. Joe Wayne Bagwell married Lou Etta Bowman on 21 September 1946 at Jefferson County, Alabama. Joe Wayne Bagwell died on 10 October 2010 in Jackson Gap, Tallapoosa County, Alabama, at age 84
BAGWELL, JOE Age 84 of Jackson's Gap, AL passed away suddenly on October 10th. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lou Etta (Buddie) Bagwell; his children, Bill Bagwell (Jane), Joe Bagwell (Kelly), Jerry Bagwell (Jill), Susan Glisson (Michael, dec.), Geneva Payne (Jimmy) and Jo Ann Epperson (Mike), nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Joe was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked for Connors Steel in Birmingham for 33 years. He started coming to the Lake Martin in 1961 and moved there permanently after retiring in 1982. He loved fishing, gardening and the purple martins that migrated through his yard every season. He was also a University of Alabama football fan, ROLL TIDE! Joe had requested to be cremated and did not wish to have any services. Alabama Funeral Homes and Cremation Centers of Dadeville, AL are in charge of the arrangements.
