     Madeline Rozelle Bagwell was born on 5 January 1925 in Elbert County, Georgia. She was the daughter of John Royce Bagwell and Rozelle Margaret Gaines. As of after 1940,her married name was Seymour. Madeline Rozelle Bagwell married Howard Travis Seymour after 1940. Madeline Rozelle Bagwell died on 14 February 2005 in Elberton, Elbert County, Georgia, at age 80.

     John Frank Bagwell was born circa 1928 in Georgia. He was the son of John Royce Bagwell and Rozelle Margaret Gaines. John Frank Bagwell married Jean Marie Young circa 1948. He was a Korean War veteran. John Frank Bagwell died on 8 December 2005 in Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia.¹

     Mary Hazel Stephens was born on 2 December 1922 in Cornelia, Habersham County, Georgia. She married (?) Howell after 1939. As of after 1940,her married name was Bagwell. Mary Hazel Stephens married John Earle Bagwell Jr., son of John Earl Bagwell and Vincie Lee Keller, after 1940. Mary Hazel Stephens died on 20 October 2021 in Cornelia, Georgia, at age 98


Mary Hazel Stephens Bagwell, 98, widow of John Earl Bagwell, Jr., passed away October 20, 2021.

A native of Cornelia, GA, daughter of the late Floyd Bush and Emma Farmer Stephens, she was retired from Steel Heddle, a caregiver and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three sons, Don Howell of Laurens; Steve Bagwell (Kim) of Taylors; Rick Bagwell (Teresa) of Greer; one daughter,' Jane Bagwell Schneider (Frank) of Taylors; on daughter-in-law, Janice of Greer; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bagwell was predeceased by one son, Tim Howell, three brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Monday, October 25, 2021, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.

     Bobby Ray Reynolds married Martha Jane Bagwell, daughter of John Earl Bagwell and Vincie Lee Keller, after 1946.

     Orin Martin Bagwell was born on 25 February 1890 in Georgia.¹ He was the son of Martin VanBuren Bagwell and Sara Emily Nelms. Orin Martin Bagwell married Zadie Maxwell on 30 September 1909 at Elbert County, Georgia. Orin Martin Bagwell and Zadie Maxwell lived in 1920 in Calhoun Falls, Abbeville County, South Carolina. Orin Martin Bagwell died on 30 October 1937 in Elbert County, Georgia, at age 47.¹ He was buried at Fork Creek Cemetery, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Zadie Maxwell was born on 16 January 1893 in Georgia.¹ As of 30 September 1909,her married name was Bagwell. She married Orin Martin Bagwell, son of Martin VanBuren Bagwell and Sara Emily Nelms, on 30 September 1909 at Elbert County, Georgia. Zadie Maxwell and Orin Martin Bagwell lived in 1920 in Calhoun Falls, Abbeville County, South Carolina. Zadie Maxwell died on 27 October 1975 at age 82.¹ She was buried at Fork Creek Cemetery, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Margaret Ester Bagwell was born on 12 November 1919 in Georgia. She was the daughter of Orin Martin Bagwell and Zadie Maxwell. Margaret Ester Bagwell died on 7 June 2006 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, at age 86.

     Orin Martin Bagwell was also known as Oren Martin Bagwell.¹ He was born on 22 December 1910 in Georgia.¹ He was the son of Orin Martin Bagwell and Zadie Maxwell. Orin Martin Bagwell married Sarah Anne Bell after 1930.² He served in the US Navy from April 6, 1944 to November 16, 1945, during World War II. Orin Martin Bagwell died on 23 February 1982 at age 71.¹ He was buried at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Elberton, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Emily N. Bagwell was born on 14 July 1912 in Georgia.¹ She was the daughter of Orin Martin Bagwell and Zadie Maxwell. Emily N. Bagwell died on 28 February 2008 at age 95.¹ She was buried at Fork Creek Baptisyt Church Cemetery, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Alice Elizabeth Bagwell was born circa 1918 in Elbert County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Orin Martin Bagwell and Zadie Maxwell. As of after 1935,her married name was Gill. Alice Elizabeth Bagwell married (?) Gill after 1935. Alice Elizabeth Bagwell died on 4 April 1980 in Washington, Wilkes County, Georgia. She was buried at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Greer, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

     Walter Clinton Bagwell was born on 13 June 1921 in Bowman, Georgia.¹ He was the son of Orin Martin Bagwell and Zadie Maxwell. Walter Clinton Bagwell married Louise Denny after 1940.² Walter Clinton Bagwell died on 22 June 1999 in Anderson County, South Carolina, at age 78.¹ He was buried at Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Martin VanBuren Bagwell was born in April 1846 in South Carolina.¹ He was the son of Barkley Bagwell and Amy (?) Martin VanBuren Bagwell married Sara Emily Nelms in 1871. Martin VanBuren Bagwell died on 13 November 1910 in Elbert County, Georgia, at age 64 [:CR:]Martin VanBuren Bagwell was numerated on the 1850 US Census in Greenville, SC in the household of Barkley Bagwell (b.about 1811 in NC) and Amy Bagwell (b. about 1813 in SC) Martin was orphaned and enumerated on the 1860 US Census living in the household of C Presnell in Hartwell, Hart County, GA.

According to official records of the Confederate States Army listed as Martin Bagwell:

Enlisted as a Private in Co C 16th Georgia Volunteer Infantry at Hartwell, GA on April 21, 1864. (May have served previously in another regiment.)

"There are two blacksmith, wood and repair shops. One is owned and operated by Mr. T. A. Hall, recently from South Carolina, and the other is run by Mr. M. V. Bagwell, who has followed his trade here for several years. Both shops are conducted in such manner as fill all requirements of their numerous patrons."

Atlanta Georgian and News, 15 Nov 1910, pg 5:

M.V. Bagwell, for twenty years a resident of Bowman, died Sunday afternoon. He had been sick for some months. Mr. Bagwell was about 66 years of age, and had been married twice. His second wife survives him. He leaves five children by his first marriage, Mrs. Alice Hulme, Emory, Van, John and Orrin Bagwell. The funeral services were conducted at Bowman Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment in Bowman cemetery.¹
He was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery, Bowman, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Sara Emily Nelms was born on 26 August 1853 in Georgia.¹ She married Martin VanBuren Bagwell, son of Barkley Bagwell and Amy (?), in 1871. Sara Emily Nelms died on 29 November 1906 at age 53.¹ She was buried at Hillcrest Cemeterty, Bowman, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Emory Scott Bagwell was born in September 1882 in Georgia.¹ He was the son of Martin VanBuren Bagwell and Sara Emily Nelms. Emory Scott Bagwell married Bessie L. Nelms on 28 December 1906 at Hart County, Georgia. Emory Scott Bagwell died in 1916.¹ He was buried at Northview Cemetery, Hartwell, Hart County, Georgia.¹

     Thomas Vandiver Bagwell was born in 1881 in Georgia.¹ He was the son of Martin VanBuren Bagwell and Sara Emily Nelms. Thomas Vandiver Bagwell married Pearl Brewer on 29 June 1905 at Elbert County, Georgia. Thomas Vandiver Bagwell married Martha Eugenia Carithers after 1915. Thomas Vandiver Bagwell married Martha Eugenia Cauthers before 1920.² Thomas Vandiver Bagwell died in 1929.¹ He was buried at Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Pearl Brewer was born on 3 September 1882 in Elbert County, Georgia.¹ She married Thomas Vandiver Bagwell, son of Martin VanBuren Bagwell and Sara Emily Nelms, on 29 June 1905 at Elbert County, Georgia. Pearl Brewer died on 14 June 1917 in Elbert County, Georgia, at age 34.¹ She was buried at Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Thomas Vandiver Bagwell Jr. was born on 9 June 1906 in Georgia.¹ He was the son of Thomas Vandiver Bagwell and Pearl Brewer. Thomas Vandiver Bagwell Jr. died on 29 March 1926 in Elbert County, Georgia, at age 19.¹ He was buried at Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton, Elbert County, Georgia.¹

     Carey Alice Bagwell was born on 21 October 1876 in Georgia. She was the daughter of Martin VanBuren Bagwell and Sara Emily Nelms. As of 13 December 1891,her married name was Hulme. Carey Alice Bagwell married Calvin E. Hulme on 13 December 1891 at Elbert, Georgia. Carey Alice Bagwell died on 23 May 1951 in Columbus, Georgia, at age 74. She was buried at Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia.

     Barkley Bagwell was also known as Berkley Bagwell. Barkley Bagwell was also known as Burkley Bagwell. He was born circa 1811 in North Carolina. He married Amy (?) before 1842.

     Amy (?) was born circa 1813 in South Carolina. She married Barkley Bagwell before 1842.

     Susan Bagwell was born circa 1842 in South Carolina. She was the daughter of Barkley Bagwell and Amy (?)

     Thornbury Bagwell was also known as Thomas Thornberry Bagwell.¹ He was born in 1843 in South Carolina.¹ He was the son of Barkley Bagwell and Amy (?) Served as a private in Company C, 4th South Carolina VI for the Conferderate States of America during the Civil War.¹ Thornbury Bagwell died on 25 August 1861 of diease during the Civil War.¹ He was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Culpeper, Culpeper County, Virginia.¹

     Eliza J. Bagwell was born in May 1847 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Barkley Bagwell and Amy (?) As of before 1880,her married name was Puckett. Eliza J. Bagwell married Henry Martin Puckett before 1880. Eliza J. Bagwell died on 12 May 1929 in Laurens County, South Carolina. She was buried at Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Laurens, Laurens County, South Carolina.
