     Betty Lewis was born on 26 February 1962 in Mississippi. As of after 1990,her married name was Bagwell. She married Joseph Hoyle Bagwell, son of Sharon Brewer, after 1990. Betty Lewis died on 2 November 2025 in Mississippi at age 63


Betty Lewis Bagwell, 63, of Hamilton, MS, passed away on November 2, 2025.

Betty was born on February 26, 1962, to Jerry and Maribeth Lewis. She grew up in Amory, MS, and was a spirited and mischievous child. While at Amory High School, Betty played on the basketball team and was a proud member of the Panther Band, where she played the flute and was a rifle girl. After graduating from AHS in 1980, Betty married her high school sweetheart, Buzz Hurt, and together they had two children, Emily and Byron. After working in healthcare as a CNA and an LPN, Betty furthered her education at Itawamba Community College with an Associates Degree of Nursing. She worked for many years at North Mississippi Medical Center as a registered nurse in the NICU and treasured her time there for the rest of her life. After the untimely passing of her first husband, Betty met and married Joseph Bagwell, who helped her find happiness and companionship again. Betty loved nothing more than sitting on the porch and chatting with Joe over a hot cup of coffee while watching their three dogs play. She loved watching the Atlanta Braves, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Above all, Betty will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family. Betty was a full-time caregiver to her aging parents until their passing. She was a devoted mother, stepmother, and dog-mom. Her greatest joy in life were her seven grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Bagwell; her children, Emily Mitchell (Austin) and Byron Hurt (Dana); her stepchildren, Chris Bagwell (Rebecca) and Beth Bagwell; her grandchildren, Drew Mitchell, Emma Moore, Maddie House, Sophie House, Liam Hurt, Logan Hurt, and Noah Hurt; her siblings, Jerry Lewis (Rhonda) and Jane Lewis; her sister-in-law, Jennifer Bray (Daniel); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Maribeth Lewis; her husband, Buzz Hurt; her mother-in-law, Sharon Self; and her sister-in-law, Angela Self.

A celebration of life will be held at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 5, at 1 pm with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 11 am until 1 pm. Burial will follow the service at New Prospect Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Austin Mitchell, Josh Maxey, Matthew Lewis, Ronnie Cavalier, Daniel Bray and Tim Watson.


She was buried on 5 November 2025 at New Prospect Cemetery, Lackey, Monroe County, Mississippi.

     Chris Bagwell is the son of Joseph Hoyle Bagwell.

     J. L. Bagwell was also known as J. Lundsford Bagwell. He was born in September 1856 in Texas. He married Forrest Tucker in December 1903. J. L. Bagwell died on 8 September 1904 in Tarrant County, Texas. He was buried on 10 September 1904 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cameron, Milan County, Texas.

     Forrest Tucker was also known as Forest Tucker. She was born in September 1868 in Cameron, Milam County, Texas. As of December 1903,her married name was Bagwell. She married J. L. Bagwell in December 1903. Forrest Tucker died on 15 March 1909 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, at age 40. She was buried at Oakland Cemetery, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.

     William Bagwell was born on 27 February 1905 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. He was the son of J. L. Bagwell and Forrest Tucker. William Bagwell married Pearl Emma Smith on 22 November 1949 at Travis, Texas. William Bagwell died on 28 February 1981 in Bertram, Burnet County, Texas, at age 76. He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas.

     Pearl Emma Smith was born on 18 August 1907 in Texas. As of 22 November 1949,her married name was Sparks. She married William Bagwell, son of J. L. Bagwell and Forrest Tucker, on 22 November 1949 at Travis, Texas. Pearl Emma Smith died on 4 September 2003 in Texas at age 96. She was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas.

     Crystal Bagwell is the daughter of Tommy Adolphus Bagwell.

     Reverend James M. Bagwell married Brittany G. (?) after 1986. Reverend James M. Bagwell is the son of Tommy Adolphus Bagwell.

     Judith Marie Bray was born on 8 October 1960. As of after 1979,her married name was Bagwell. She married Michael Jim Bagwell, son of Albert Alvoyd Bagwell and Arie Lavonia "Penny" Gentry, after 1979. Judith Marie Bray died on 9 November 2025 at age 65


Judith Marie Bray Bagwell, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025 . Born on October 8, 1960, Judy lived a life filled with love, compassion, and faith.

She was married to her devoted husband, Michael Bagwell, for 44 wonderful years. Judy had a remarkable talent for cooking and was known as an excellent cook who poured her heart into every meal she made. She also enjoyed sewing and even made many of her own clothes. Her creativity and care touched every aspect of her life.

Judy's heart for children was extraordinary. She served as a foster parent, opening her home and heart to many children over the years and making a lasting difference in their lives. She was an active and involved parent, always participating in her children's school activities and encouraging them in everything they did.

She was a lifetime member of the Bob Jones University Alumni Association, Judy was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church located in Hampton, Ga., where she was especially passionate about the Awana program. Her love for the Lord and her church family shone brightly in all she did. She also loved to travel and explore new places, creating wonderful memories with her loved ones.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Michael Bagwell; her children, Hannah Bagwell , Christopher Bagwell and Abigail Millan (Alex); her brothers, Steve Bray and Tim Bray. She was joyfully anticipating the arrival of her first grandchild in the near future.

Funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.

Judy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the many lives she touched.

     Sarah Bryant married Littleberry Bagwell, son of Nathan Bunt Bagwell and Sarah Mainor, on 10 March 1869 at Wake County, North Carolina.

     Littleberry Bagwell was also known as Little Berry Bagwell. Littleberry Bagwell was also known as L. B. Bagwell. He was born in 1803 in South Carolina. He married Sarah McCarley before 1834. Littleberry Bagwell died before 1880. He was buried at Old Providence Cemetery, Forney, Cherokee County, Alabama.

     Sarah McCarley was born circa 1813 in South Carolina. As of before 1834,her married name was Bagwell. She married Littleberry Bagwell before 1834. Sarah McCarley died after 1880. She was buried at Old Providence Cemetery, Forney, Cherokee County, Alabama.

     Francis Elizabeth Bagwell was born on 18 February 1834 in South Carolina. She was the daughter of Littleberry Bagwell and Sarah McCarley. As of before 1854,her married name was Pruett. Francis Elizabeth Bagwell married John L. Pruett before 1854. Francis Elizabeth Bagwell died on 24 April 1908 in Chavies, DeKalb County, Alabama, at age 74.

     John L. Pruett was born in 1828. He married Francis Elizabeth Bagwell, daughter of Littleberry Bagwell and Sarah McCarley, before 1854. John L. Pruett died in 1862 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, during the Civil War.

     Mary Eugenia Bagwell was born on 3 June 1836 in South Carolina. She was the daughter of Littleberry Bagwell and Sarah McCarley. As of 1856,her married name was James. Mary Eugenia Bagwell married Lafayette Houston James in 1856. Mary Eugenia Bagwell died on 10 August 1915 in Dutton, Jackson County, Alabama, at age 79.

     Lafayette Houston James was born in 1827. He married Mary Eugenia Bagwell, daughter of Littleberry Bagwell and Sarah McCarley, in 1856. Lafayette Houston James died in 1907.

     Mourning Christine Bagwell was born on 12 March 1840 in District 733, Campbell County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Littleberry Bagwell and Sarah McCarley. As of 1860,her married name was Hanson. Mourning Christine Bagwell married Reverend Thomas Rhodes Hanson in 1860. Mourning Christine Bagwell died on 14 February 1912 in Subdivision 141, Floyd County, Georgia, at age 71. She was buried at Old Providence Cemetery, Forney, Cherokee County, Alabama.

     Reverend Thomas Rhodes Hanson was born in 1839. He married Mourning Christine Bagwell, daughter of Littleberry Bagwell and Sarah McCarley, in 1860. Reverend Thomas Rhodes Hanson died in 1929.
