Mary Lee Dolvin Bagwell passed away surrounded by her family and entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and stepmother, treasured her family above all else. She is survived by her husband, David Bagwell; her daughters, Melissa (Charlie) Scheurer and Marsha (Michael) Ferguson; her grandchildren, Hannah and Sarah Scheurer, Emily and William Hammond, and Zachary Ferguson; her sister, Midge Dolvin Schultz; her nieces and nephews, Michelle Stapleton, Chad Brannon, Josh Brannon, and Christy Sieverts; and her stepsons, David (Marty) Bagwell, Jr. and Andrew Bagwell, along with their families.
Mary Lee lived her faith with joy as a longtime member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, joined Bible studies, and served in ministries including the Firewood Ministry with her grandson William, special needs outreach, Kairos, the Emmaus Community, the Prayer Chapel, and Meals on Wheels.
She served her community as a Washington County Commissioner and held leadership roles with Comcare International, the Junior Monday Club, Johnson City Evening Rotary Club, and P.E.O. International. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
As an audiologist and owner of East Tennessee Hearing Center, she served Upper East Tennessee families with special needs children through Tennessee Infant Parent Services (TIPS) and internationally through ComCare International serving the indigent hearing impaired in developing countries.
A graduate of Maryville College and the University of Tennessee, she loved to travel, visiting nearly 25 countries, and proudly served as a district delegate during her cousin President Jimmy Carter's campaign. She enjoyed time with friends, time on the water, and learning new instruments, including the harp later in life.
A Celebration of Life for Mary Lee will be held on Tuesday, May 19, at 3:30 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee, with visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Broad Street United Methodist Church.
