Married to George Clarence Salter for more than 59 years until her death. Children are Anita Louise Salter Bragg, George Herbert Salter, James Edward Salter. Lived in Savannah most of her life. She was the retired office manager of the Family Counseling Center of Savannah. Later worked at Georgia Telco Credit Union. In the 1930s and '40s she was employed by W.T. Grant and was an active member of their "alumni" association. In the late '40s and early '50s, she was active in the Parent Teacher Association of Georgia at 37th Street School and at the county level. She continued to be active in the American Business Women's Association and in the Hostess City Chapter, serving as its president several times. She was named Woman of the Year in 1976 and 1993. She was in the first graduating class of Commercial High School, and was a member of the Bull Street Baptist Church for many years. She was the daughter of Miles Herbert Bagwell Sr and Annie Ruth Reeves Bagwell.1,2 She was buried at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.2

Mr. Bagwell died Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Born in Pooler, GA, he was the son of the late Miles Herbert Bagwell and Annie Ruth Reeves Bagwell. Formerly of Savannah, GA, he had been a local resident here since 1971. He was a member of Lake Murray Baptist Church and had retired from CSX Railroad after 44 years of service as a mechanical foreman. He was former and past Potentate of the Jamil Shrine Temple in 2001, and founder of Jamil Choo-Choo Unit. He was a member of the York and Scottish Rites and Masonic Temple. He was affectionately known as "Pops" to his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Nell Bagwell of Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Bobby Stokes of Chapin; sons and daughter-in-law, James and Laura Bagwell of Lexington, and Andy Dabbs of West Columbia; four grandchildren, Audrey Stokes, Alex Stokes, Brandon Bagwell, Thomas Bagwell; and one great-grandchild, Hannah Millen

Hugh enlisted in Company I, 1st Regiment, Virginia Infantry as a private in the Confederate States of America army.
51st Infantry Regiment was formed in August, 1861, with eleven companies. Company L was later assigned to the 23rd Battalion. Its members were recruited in the counties of Wythe, Nelson, Bland, Floyd, and Grayson. During the war it started in General Floyd's and G.C. Wharton's Brigade. The 51st served in the Army of the Kanawha, moved to Tennessee, and after fighting at Fort Donelson marched to Nashville with 274 men. Later it was sent to western Virginia, saw action at Carnifax Ferry, then returned to Tennessee where it was involved in the Knoxville Campaign. The unit went on to fight in numerous conflicts in the Shenandoah Valley and sometime around April 15, 1865, disbanded. It reported 9 killed, 43 wounded, and 5 missing at Fort Donelson, and 3 killed and 16 wounded at Fayetteville. Only a handful remained after the Battle of Waynesborough. The field officers were Colonels Augustus Forsberg and Gabriel C. Wharton; Lieutenant Colonels George A. Cunningham, James W. Massie, and John P. Wolfe; and Majors William T. Akers, Stephen M. Dickey, D.P. Graham, D.S. Hounshell, and William A. Yonce. He died after August 1861.
