Gene Paul Bagwell married Fern E. Swanson on 27 November 1947 at Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Gene Paul Bagwell and Fern E. Swanson were divorced in 1974. Gene Paul Bagwell died on 23 January 2015 in Moulton, Alabama, at age 88


CARTERVILLE -- Gene Bagwell, 88, of Moulton, Alabama, formerly of Carterville, passed away at 4:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at home with his family by his side.

He was born April 12, 1926, in Carterville, to Ernest and Clara Bagwell.

Gene proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and witnessed the atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll. He continued his call to serve in the U.S. Army as a Sgt. 1st Class during the Korean War.

He graduated from William Hood Dunwoody College and Minneapolis State College.

After graduation, Gene began working as a tool and dye specialist. He was employed by Rockwell Automation in Minneapolis and worked on the Apollo Rocket Guidance Systems in the 1960s. Never one to shy away from work, Gene worked at various places throughout his lifetime including-Norge in Herrin, Inland Steel in Sesser, and HHS Machinery in Moulton-which he owned and operated. In his later years, he worked for Tac Enterprises in Alabama rebuilding and restoring tractors from all over the world and lastly, Walmart where he did custodial work.

He is survived by his wife, Klieta Bagwell of Moulton, Alabama; children and their spouses, Jeff Bagwell (Kathy) of Litchfield, Lynn Bittle (Randy) of Carterville, Gene Bagwell (Lacie) of Carterville, Jennifer Culp of Decatur, Alabama, Travis Bagwell of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Lindsay Campbell, Callie Bagwell, Ashley Bagwell, Nathan Bittle, Max Bittle, Wes Bittle, Devin Bagwell, Sarah Gittlein, Andrew Gittlein, Brady Bagwell, Alexis Culp, and Stone Culp; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Huff of Bluford; sister-in-law, Marian Bagwell of Atlanta, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.


Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Clara Bagwell; brother, Ernie Bagwell; and brother-in-law, Dale Huff.

In addition to belonging to the Masonic Lodge and Shriner’s Temple, Gene was also a member of American Legion, lifetime member of the VFW, and an Eagle Scout Master.

Services for Gene will be on April 12, in Moulton, Alabama, on what would have been his 89th birthday.

She loved her many travels to other countries such as England, Germany, Japan, Guam, the Phillipines, Panama and Hawaii. She was a member of Camellia Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. For 20 years, she managed The Cottage Restaurant in Prattville. Mrs. Bagwell loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert Troy Bagwell; parents, William and Emma Baker; sister, Quinola Baker; one son-in-law, Jimmy Turner and 2 grandchildren. She is survived by 5 daughters, Candy Turner, Gail (Bob) Stewart, Shirley (Ed) Roso, Joy Hanson and Marie (Dave) Hall, one son, Troy (Maggie) Bagwell, Jr; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Bertha Thompson; 2 brothers, W.T. Baker and J.C. Baker; nieces and nephews.

TURNER, Candy Bagwell, 67, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at a Montgomery hospital. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., from the Prattville Memorial Chapel, with Reverend John Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing.

Mrs. Turner was a devoted and loving wife, mother,and grandmother who was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Mrs. Turner was well known in the community for her restaurant, The Cottage.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy Ray Turner, and her parents, Herbert and Ruby Bagwell. She is survived by two daughters, Dana (Greg) Pouncy, and Gina (Michael) Mount; four grandchildren, Kyle Pouncy, Katlyn Pouncy, Amber Mann, and Bailey Mount; four sisters, Gail (Bob) Stewart, Shirley (Eddie) Roso, Joy Hanson, and Marie (Dave) Hall; one brother, Troy (Maggie) Bagwell; longtime friends, Paul and Evelyn Mullins and their family; and many special nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Stewart, Dave Hall, Greg Pouncy, Michael Mount, Kevin Turner, and Dean Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Wes Bonner, Kyle Pouncy, Cory Bagwell, Nic Bagwell, Eddie Roso,and Raymond Turner.

Edress Aline Hurst died on 1 November 2013 in Ragland, St. Clair County, Alabama, at age 88 Funeral services for Edress Aline Bagwell, 88, of Ragland were Monday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at Usrey Chapel with the Rev. Lowell Douglas and Brother Doug Ford officiating. Burial is at Ragland United Methodist Cemetery. Mrs. Bagwell died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013. Mrs. Bagwell was a resident of Ragland. She formerly lived in Birmingham for 25 years. She retired from Aladdin cleaners after 21 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Bagwell Sr; her brother, William Edward "Bill" Meads Sr; and her sisters, Audrey Bastedo and Johnnie Mae Henderson. She is survived by her sons, George L. (Sharron) Bagwell Jr. and William E. (Shelia) Meads Jr; daughters, Georgette Bagwell and Leona B. (Lowell) Douglas; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gray's Chapel Church in Ragland. Usrey Funeral Home directed the service.
