Lewis Powell "Bug Eye" Bagwell, age 91, of Brevard died Tuesday March 2, 2010, at his residence, he was born August 20, 1918 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late Landrum Earl Bagwell, Sr. and Dovie Powell Bagwell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Landrum Earl Bagwell, Jr. and Horace Bagwell, one sister Beryl Nalley and one nephew Horace Martin.

Mr. Bagwell was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Brevard, North Carolinam a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps and retired from Ecusta Corp.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years (A True Love Story) Katherine "Katie" Simpson Bagwell of the home, one daughter Mrs. Joan Lorraine Bagwell Wally of Brevard, North Carolina; two granddaughters, and three great-granddaughters.

Graveside services will be held Saturday March 6, 2010 at 3 p. m. at Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery conducted by Rev. Danny
Hedgepath.1

Native of Hartsville, he had lived most of his life in Spartanburg; son of Landrum Earle Bagwell, Sr. (21 Jun 1885 - 25 Mar 1978) and Dovie Effee Powell Bagwell (27 May 1889 - 30 Nov 1958) ; married (1) Eula Walker after 1925 and (2) Ila Belle Levie after 1946.

Gradate of Spartanburg High School and received a B.S. degree in textile engineering at Clemson University in 1932. Graduate second his class in the College of Textiles and was honored with membership in Phi Psi Honorary Textile Fraternity.

Retired from Spartan Mills after 35 years of service including the position of plant superintendent at the Beaumont Plant of Spartan Mills and later as director purchases for the corporation.

Previously employed at Watts Mill in Laurens, Avondale Mills in Birmingham, AL and the Drayton Plant of Milliken.

He was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where he was a member and former vice president and treasurer of the Fellowship Class, a former member of the Kiwanis Club and the Golden K Club of Kiwanis, a member of the Country Club of Spartanburg for 47 years and formerly served on the Civil Service Commission of Spartanburg.
