     Lieutenant Gaston H. Broughton was born on 22 August 1838 in St. Mary's Township, Wake County, North Carolina.1 He was the son of Joseph Broughton and Mary Martha "Polly" Bagwell.2 Lieutenant Gaston H. Broughton married Louisa Hawkins Franks on 1 February 1859.2 Lieutenant Gaston H. Broughton and Louisa Hawkins Franks lived in 1860 in Swift Creek, North Carolina; Gaston H. and Louisa Hawkins Franks moved on to Louisa Hawkin Franks' parent's farm Swift Creek, North Carolina. When North Carolina entered the Civil War in May, 1861, Gaston enlisted with Company D of the NC 26th infantry, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Gaston was injured and captured at the Battle of Gettysburg in July, 1863, and he would spend the next two years in deplorable conditions at Federal prison camps. He was finally released in June of 1865 from Ft. Delaware, often called the "Andersonville of the North". Lieutenant Gaston H. Broughton died on 15 August 1907 in Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, at age 68.1 He was buried at City Cemetery, Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina.1

Mollie claimed to be 1/8 blood Choctaw and her two children to be 1/16 blood from the Mississippi Choctaw tribe.

Ivy shot Love Bagwell in the head with a shotgun. Charles Ivy was later hanged on July 20, 1920 by the State of Mississippi for the death of Love Bagwell.
