     Lena Norma Allen was also known as Polly Allen. She was born on 18 January 1924 in Candler, Buncombe County, North Carolina. As of 6 December 1942,her married name was Bagwell. She married Oliver Kenneth Bagwell, son of Wilton Horace Bagwell and Helen Watkins, on 6 December 1942 at Buncombe County, North Carolina. Lena Norma Allen and Oliver Kenneth Bagwell were divorced on 14 March 1974 at Buncombe County, North Carolina. Lena Norma Allen died on 11 January 2003 in Haw River, Alamace County, North Carolina, at age 78. She was buried on 15 January 2023 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler, Buncombe County, North Carolina;

HAW RIVER — Norma (Polly) Allen Bagwell of Haw River passed away January 11th, at the age of 98. She was born in Candler, NC in 1924. Polly was preceded in death by her parents, M.M. Allen and Lena Cordell Allen, as well as six older brothers and sisters. She was a member of Swepsonville United Methodist Church in Graham, NC.

She is survived by her two children O. Kenneth Bagwell, Jr, and Joan Bagwell Crowson (Danny); three grandsons, Nathan Barnhardt (Alisha), Keith Barnhardt (Melinda), and Kevin Barnhardt (Daniela Villalba); Miss Mey Lin Li of Vienna, Austria; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan Barnhardt, Zoe Barnhardt, Jameson Barnhardt, Tatum Barnhardt, Olivia Barnhardt, Parker Barnhardt, and Camden Barnhardt; two step great-grandchildren, Nicole Harp and Ayden Harp; and several nieces and nephews.

After WWII Polly moved to Atlanta, Georgia with her then husband, Oliver K. Bagwell, where she worked as a payroll clerk for Westinghouse Electrical Supply Co. After her children were born, the family relocated to Asheville, NC. Polly spent several years raising a family and beginning a career at AkzoAmerica. Although the marriage subsequently ended, she felt that raising her children was the greatest accomplishment of her life.

Polly transferred with Akzo America (now Akzo Nobel) to New York City late in her career. She retired in 1990 and returned to North Carolina. In retirement, Polly worked as a Guardian Ad Litem for abused and neglected children in Orange and Chatham counties. She volunteered as church treasurer for Aldersgate Methodist Church. Following the advice of a friend “never to postpone joy”, she loved tea parties, flowers, reading, travel, cooking, and singing in the church choir. She was serious about successfully completing the New York Times crossword every day.

Rich and Thompson funeral home in Graham will manage local arrangements. A memorial service will be held at Swepsonville United Methodist Church at 3 pm on Sunday, January 15th. She will then be moved to Asheville for a visitation at Groce Funeral Home followed by interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum in Candler, NC.

     Martha Pierce Royal married Oliver Kenneth Bagwell Jr., son of Oliver Kenneth Bagwell and Lena Norma Allen, on 26 May 1984 at Province Baptist Church, Charolette, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

     Jane Karen Tarr married Marc Christian Bagwell, son of Robert Lee Bagwell and Odette Louise Brierre, on 9 June 1974 at Bellmont, Illinois.

     Gregory Arnold Bagwell is the son of Arnold Merle Bagwell and Nancy Jeanne Sadler.

     Steven R. Bagwell is the son of Reeves Albert Bagwell and Charlene Louise (?)¹ Steven R. Bagwell married Denise R. Whalen on 19 February 1990 at Washoe County, Nevada. Steven R. Bagwell and Denise R. Whalen were divorced on 12 August 2013 at Lincoln County, Washington.

     Jay Collin Bagwell is the son of Reeves Albert Bagwell and Charlene Louise (?)¹ Jay Collin Bagwell married Darla Lea Chatrick before 1991. Jay Collin Bagwell and Darla Lea Chatrick were divorced on 2 July 1992 at Pierce County, Washington. Jay Collin Bagwell married Kimber L Holtermann before 1998.      Beatrice Allen was born on 25 July 1905 in South Carolina.¹ As of after 1925,her married name was Bagwell. She married William Weldon Bagwell, son of Robert Fredrick Bagwell Sr. and Sallie Elizabeth Pearman, after 1925. Beatrice Allen and William Weldon Bagwell lived in 1940 in Tucapau, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Beatrice Allen died on 22 December 1990 in Boiling Springs, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, at age 85.¹ She was buried on 24 December 1990 at Boiling Springs, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.¹

     Jane Elizabeth Bagwell was born on 21 October 1927 in South Carolina.¹ She was the daughter of William Weldon Bagwell and Beatrice Allen. As of 13 May 1946,her married name was Bogan.² Jane Elizabeth Bagwell married Ralph Kennedy Bogan on 13 May 1946.² Jane Elizabeth Bagwell died on 13 March 1990 in Greer, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, at age 62.¹ She was buried at Wood Memorial Park, Duncan, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

     Barbara Ann Bagwell was born on 10 November 1931 in South Carolina. She was the daughter of William Weldon Bagwell and Beatrice Allen. As of after 1950,her married name was Robinson. Barbara Ann Bagwell married Richard Robinson after 1950. Barbara Ann Bagwell died on 6 June 2010 in Inman, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, at age 78. She was buried at Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens, Boiling Springs, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

     Ralph Kennedy Bogan was born on 5 July 1922.¹ He married Jane Elizabeth Bagwell, daughter of William Weldon Bagwell and Beatrice Allen, on 13 May 1946.¹ Ralph Kennedy Bogan died on 3 September 1979 at age 57.¹ He was buried at Wood Memorial Park, Duncan, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.¹

     Joan T. "Joanie" Kinnemann married Benjamin Moriarty Bagwell, son of Benjamin John Cicero Bagwell and Claire Arlene Moriarty, on 10 June 1995.

     Hanie Bagwell was born on 20 March 1897 in South Carolina.¹ She was the daughter of William Henry Bagwell and Hanie Mitchell.¹ Hanie Bagwell died on 6 June 1897 in South Carolina.¹ She was buried at Princeton Baptist Church Cemetery, Princeton, Laurens County, South Carolina.¹

     George Luster Ridgeway was born on 6 April 1888 in South Carolina. He married Minerva Eulala "Lala" Bagwell, daughter of George H. Bagwell and Rebecca Priscilla Robertson, after 1905. George Luster Ridgeway died on 2 July 1945 in Princeton, Laurens County, South Carolina, at age 57. He was buried at Princeton Baptist Church Cemetery, Princeton, Laurens County, South Carolina.

     Darren M. Bagwell was born on 16 May 1967 in Flint, Michigan. He was the son of Charles Michael Bagwell and Marlena (?) Darren M. Bagwell married Duyen Thi Nguyen after 1986. Darren M. Bagwell died on 16 July 2020 in Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, at age 53


Appleton - Darren Bagwell passed away at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN on July 16, 2020 after a long illness. Darren was born in Flint, Michigan on May 16, 1967. He graduated from high school in Naperville, IL where he excelled as a student and competed on the tennis team. Upon graduation he attended Kettering University in Flint, MI receiving a Bachelor Degree in Management Systems. While in college he worked at Robert Bosch in the Chicago area alternating between work and school. Immediately upon graduation he was accepted at Columbia University in New York City where he earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation he wrote and published a business newsletter, The Spin Off Report in New York. He joined Robert Baird in Milwaukee for several years followed by a stint with Bank of America in San Francisco. He has spent the last 18 years at Thrivent Asset Management where he most recently served as Vice President-Chief Equity Strategist & Investment and Committee Member. He also served as Portfolio Manager of various Thrivent mutual funds since 2014.

Darren was committed to his work but his first love was his family. He is survived by his wife Duyen, his son Macalister "Mac" (20) who is a senior at Stanford University, and his daughter Dakota "Kodi" (16), a Junior at Appleton North High School. He was proud of Mac for his academic accomplishments at Stanford and Kodi for her commitment to excellence in dance, especially Ballet. Other surviving family members are his mother and father, Charles and Marlena Bagwell of Grand Blanc, MI and his younger brother Aaron of Fostoria, MI.

Darren was an avid fan of all Chicago sports teams—especially the Cubs, Blackhawks and Chicago Bears. He was never to be disturbed during any one of these games, unless it was to attend the kids' events.

Private services for Darren have been held and he will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton.
