     Richard B. Bagwell is the son of Robert William Reyes Bagwell and Liberata Camarines Budlong.

     John Bagwell was born on 6 February 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the son of John Bagwell and Jessie Wilson. John Bagwell died on 25 February 1974 in Detriot, Michigan, at age 49.

     Jane Bagwell is the daughter of John Bagwell and Jessie Wilson. Jane Bagwell married Herman Otis Mitchell on 25 October 1952 at Wayne County, Michigan. Jane Bagwell married (?) Graham before 2006.

     Orville Griffin Mumford was born on 15 June 1897 in Detriot, Michigan. He married Jessie Wilson on 8 August 1944 at Lucas County, Ohio. Orville Griffin Mumford died on 21 November 1969 in Fleming, Michigan, at age 72.

     Herman Otis Mitchell was born on 10 October 1930. He married Jane Bagwell, daughter of John Bagwell and Jessie Wilson, on 25 October 1952 at Wayne County, Michigan. Herman Otis Mitchell died on 12 December 2013 in Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan, at age 83


Flag Photo Herman Otis Mitchell, Sr. Lansing Herman Otis Mitchell, Sr. was born on October 10, 1930 to Otey and Clara Mitchell, who preceded him in death. He was the youngest of three children. Herman regularly attended church with his parents and sisters. As a young boy, Herman´s hard work ethic was evident with his newspaper route. While attending Cass Technical High School (class of 1947), Herman had an apprenticeship where he designed the building for Tannery Leather Company. He enlisted in the United States Air Force (1949-1953), fought in the Korean War and was a Tuskegee Airman. Herman attended Michigan State University and began working for the Michigan Highway Department (1958) as a civil engineer. He drew the layout and design of the I-696 freeway overpass (east and west) over the I-75 freeway in Metropolitan Detroit and other bridges within the state, including the Lansing area. Herman helped draw the layout and design of the St. Lawrence Seaway in Ontario, Canada; a system of locks, canals and channels that allow ocean-going vessels to travel from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes. Herman retired from the State of Michigan Department of Transportation. Later in life, Herman was a tax preparer and consultant.

Herman endured racism and mistreatment both in the military and on the job. He used his sense of humor to deal with whatever life brought his way, even the reoccurrence of his illness.

Herman was benevolent to his family, friends and community. His jokes and boisterous laugh often made him the life of the party. Herman played the clarinet and performed in a band in Lansing. He was an eternal learner and had a lot of respect for education. Herman took courses at Lansing Community College and attended conferences to gain knowledge about the latest tax updates. Herman also formed and led an Alcoholics Anonymous support group.

Herman made his transition on December 12, 2013. His two sisters preceded him in death: Jewel and Mildred. Herman O. Mitchell, Sr. leaves to mourn two sons: Anthony (Janis) and Herman, Jr; one granddaughter: Brandy (Raford); four great-granddaughters: Briez, Carmen, Londongray and Parker; cousin: Louise; special friend: Viola; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Mr. Mitchell will lie in repose Wednesday, December 18, 12-7pm at Riley Funeral Home, 426 W. St. Joseph St., Lansing, MI 48933. Funeral Services for Mr. Mitchell will be held Thursday, December 19,12pm, at Paradise Missionary Baptist Church, 3403 Franette Rd, Lansing, MI 48906. The family will receive friends one hour before the service begins.

     Terry Louise Bagwell was also known as Carrie Louise Bagwell. She was born on 31 March 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia.¹ She was the daughter of John Bagwell and Jessie Wilson. Terry Louise Bagwell died on 31 May 2006 in Farmington Hills, Michigan, at age 78.¹ She was buried on 6 June 2006 at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Detriot, Wayne County, Michigan.¹

     Johnnie Mae Bagwell was born on 25 April 1943 in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. He was the son of Columbus B. Bagwell and Lillian Gunnells. Johnnie Mae Bagwell died on 6 February 2013 in Pinehurst, Moore County, North Carolina, at age 69. He was buried at Cross Hill Cemetery, Carthage, Moore County, North Carolina.

     John H. Bagwell was born circa 1869 in Tennessee. He was the son of Jacob Bagwell and Jane (?)

     Doris Simpson was born on 5 March 1929 in Lauren County, South Carolina. As of 16 March 1946,her married name was Bagwell. She married John Thomas Bagwell, son of John R. Beaman Bagwell and Allie Bishop, on 16 March 1946 at Greenwood, Greenwood County, South Carolina. Doris Simpson died on 20 June 1992 at age 63. She was buried on 22 June 1992 at Dials Cemetery, Gray Court, Lauren County, South Carolina.

     Richard Michael Bagwell was born on 3 February 1947. He was the son of John Thomas Bagwell and Doris Simpson. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Richard Michael Bagwell died on 3 October 2009 at age 62. He was buried at Dials Cemetery, Gray Court, Lauren County, South Carolina.

     Linda Diane Bagwell was born on 21 November 1953 in Laurens, Laurens County, South Carolina. She was the daughter of John Thomas Bagwell and Doris Simpson. As of 8 March 1974,her married name was Heaton. Linda Diane Bagwell married Timothy Heaton on 8 March 1974. Linda Diane Bagwell died on 30 April 2003 at age 49


Linda B. Heaton, age 49, of 1597 Sandy Springs Road, died Wednesday, April 30, at her home.

She was born in Laurens County, and was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Doris Simpson Bagwell.

Mrs. Heaton was employed with Teknor Apex Carolina in Fountain Inn. She was an active member of First Responders for Sandy Springs Fire Department (and served on their Board of Directors), and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Tim Heaton, of the home; two daughters, Susan Heaton Hurley and Tina D. Heaton, both of Laurens; and three grandchildren, Brittany and Morgan Hurley, and Amber Heaton, all of Laurens.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 3, at 3 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church, with burial at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church.
