Dorothy Bagwell Tyson, 88, of Wilmington, NC, died Saturday, September 11, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Wilmington on May 27, 1933, the daughter of the late LeRoy W. Bagwell and Thelma Hales Bagwell. Also remembered is her husband, Norman Tyson, and a sister, Florence Costin, both of who preceded her in death.

Surviving is her sister, Linda Bagwell; three sons, Herman (Fran), Jerry (Lisa), Timothy (Theresa); ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Lady.

Dorothy was a graduate of New Hanover High School, class of '51, and married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Norman Edward Tyson later that year on July 29, 1951.

She worked for Victor Goodman, accountant, from January 1962 to December 1968. Mr. Goodman passed away December 1968 and left her the business which she has worked for the past fifty-three years. During that time, she became a member of The North Carolina Society of Accountants and the National Society of Accountants. In November of 1972 Dorothy joined Winter Park Baptist Church and they became her church family.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Winter Park Baptist Church.


She was buried at Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina.
