I belive that her death certificate is incorrect.1,2 She was the daughter of William Marson Davis and Lula J. Hopkins.2 As of 1901,her married name was Bagwell. Mary Thompson Davis married John Terry Bagwell, son of Harmon Reed Bagwell and Irena Ann Davenport, in 1901 at Greenville County, South Carolina. Mary Thompson Davis died on 2 August 1925 in Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina, at age 38. According to Kimberly (Bagwell) Minor, Mary Thompson died while giving birth to J.T. Bagwell and the baby is buried in Mary Thompson's arms.

She died of puerperal eclampsia which is convulsions and coma that are associated with hypertension, edema, or proteinuria, occurring in a woman immediately following childbirth.1,2 She was buried on 3 August 1925 at Washington Cemetery, Ware Place, Greenville County, South Carolina.1,2

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Willie and Sara Lou Knight Bagwell. He was retired from Orchard View Meats, a member of Washington Baptist Church and the Lonnie Neves Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his stepson, Jack Harrison Hogan and his wife, Colleen of Asheville, N.C; sister-in-law, Joyce Bagwell of Pelzer; and nephew, Tony Bagwell of Greenville.

He was predeceased by his brother, David Bagwell.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Washington Baptist Church, with the Rev. Stan Candler officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Baptist Church, Building Fund, 208 Washington Church Road, Pelzer, SC, 29669.

The family is at the home of Joyce Bagwell, 110 Bismark Drive, Pelzer and will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Gray Mortuary.

Surviving are her husband, John Earl Bagwell of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack Harrison and Colleen Hogan of Asheville; and sisters, Lillie Mae King and Shirley Boyce of Pelzer, and Cora Gunnells of Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert (Bobby) Hogan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Washington Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Stan Candler and the Rev. James Ellenburg. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The family would like to thank family members, friends and neighbors for their love and support during her illness and death.

PIEDMONT—Kathleen Smith Bagwell, 87, wife of the late Edward Davis Bagwell, lifetime resident of 26 Prospect Street, died Friday, April 17, 2009, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late J. Edward and Minnie Jenkins Smith. She was an employee of J.P. Stevens Piedmont plant for forty plus years and a member of Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.

She is survived by her son James E. Bagwell, Sr. and his wife Diane of Anderson, grandchildren James E. Bagwell, Jr. and his wife Marisa of Simpsonville, Allison Lehtinen and her husband Duane of Cary, NC, and great granddaughter Sarah Grace Lehtinen. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11:30 am Monday at Greenville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Barry Manley and Rev. Bill Shepherd officiating.2
