In 1954, he joined together with Geraldine (Jerri) Morrison and Georgia Jones to form "The Sunliters", a local gospel group which would be joined in 1960 by Jan Buckner, Wendy's niece-in-law. They became one of the premier Southern gospel groups in the nation, winning a Top 5 Grammy Award in 1995, Gold Record for Million Seller, Special Award from the Gospel Music Association, and other awards.

(Ronald was his nephew).4 Wendell "Wendy" Lee Bagwell married Melba Louise Hogue on 18 April 1946 at Dallas, Georgia.4 Wendell "Wendy" Lee, his wife Melba and his nephew, Ronald Buckner, opened Bagwell Sales Furniture in Georgia. (Ronald was his nephew).4 Wendell "Wendy" Lee Bagwell married Melba Louise Hogue on 18 April 1946 at Dallas, Georgia.4 Wendell "Wendy" Lee, his wife Melba and his nephew, Ronald Buckner, opened Bagwell Sales Furniture in Georgia. The same business, now named Wendy Bagwell Furniture, is still family owned and operated in Mableton, Georgia.5 He died on 13 June 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia, at age 71 of a brain aneurysm.1,2,3 He was buried on 15 June 1996 at Riverview (River View) Memorial Park, Smyrna, Cobb County, Georgia.2 Wendell "Wendy" Lee was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1997 as Wendy Bagwell and the Sunliters. Inducted in 1998 Georgia Music Hall and in GMA's Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2001.3,4,6
