Abilene, Texas - Gathalee (Bagwell) Stephens, 80, of Abilene, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, at Bradshaw Cemetery with Pastor Randy Estes officiating, under the direction of Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd St. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gathalee was born in Bradshaw, Texas, on August 26, 1927, to Larken M. and Lavada E. Bagwell. She moved to Abilene from Garden City in 1956. She attended Victory Baptist Church and over the years had worked for Tip-Top Foods, Sunbeam Cookie Co. and AISD. She married George Stephens in Abilene on September 14, 1942. They shared 61 years of marriage before his death in 2004.

She is survived by: a son, George Wayne Stephens and his wife, Barbara, of Abilene; two daughters, Laverne McCutchen and her husband, Alvah D., and Carolyn Stephens, both of Abilene; eight grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother; seven sisters and three half-sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Meals on Wheels, 717 No. 10th St., Abilene, TX 79601.¹ She was buried at Bradshaw Cemetery, Bradshaw, Taylor County, Texas.¹

     Retta Ida Bagwell was born on 13 January 1917 in Texas. She was the daughter of Larkin Madison Bagwell and Lavada Elnora Martin. As of after 1920,her married name was Stephens. Retta Ida Bagwell married Bill Stephens after 1920. Retta Ida Bagwell died on 17 September 2006 in Garden City, Texas, at age 89.

     Willie Bagwell was born on 3 April 1880.¹ He was the son of Samuel Fields Bagwell and Sarah L. Edge. Willie Bagwell died on 18 May 1899 at age 19.¹ He was buried at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery, Carnesville, Franklin County, Georgia.¹

     Nancy A. E. Sparks was born on 18 April 1865 in Alabama.¹ As of 2 November 1884,her married name was Bagwell. She married Albert Galliton Bagwell, son of John Winkfield Bagwell and Caroline Matilda Cosby, on 2 November 1884 at Clay County, Texas. Nancy A. E. Sparks lived in 1900 in Township 11, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory. She died on 29 January 1952 in Riverside, California, at age 86.¹ She was buried at Olivewood Cemetery, Riverside, Riverside County, California.¹

     Gordon Richard Bagwell was born on 27 August 1888 in Cottle County, Texas. He was the son of Albert Galliton Bagwell and Nancy A. E. Sparks. Gordon Richard Bagwell married Birdie E. Crowell on 4 November 1908 at Riverside County, California. Gordon Richard Bagwell married Gladys Margaret Walquist after 1920. Gordon Richard Bagwell and Gladys Margaret Walquist lived in 1940 in San Diego, San Diego County, California. Gordon Richard Bagwell died on 3 November 1979 in Chisago County, Minnesota, at age 91

Gordon Richard Bagwell was born in Post Oak,Texas on Aug 27, 1888, one of 11 children of Albert and Nancy Sparks Bagwell. At 16 he moved with his family to Riverside, CA where he entered the men's clothing business, which he continued in Hutchinson, Minnesota, some years later. On Sept 29, 1928 he married Gladys Wahlquist in Lindstrom. They were married by her father, then the Methodist Minister Rev. E. A. Wahlquist.

In 1960 he retired while in Hutchinson and the family moved to Lindstrom, where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

On Oct 24 he broke his arm in a fall, developed pneumonia and after a short illness, died at Chisago Lakes Hospital Saturday, Nov 3.

Funeral services were held Tuesday Nov 6 at the Methodist church with Rev John C. Blackford officiating. A memorial tribute was made by his nephew, Rev Clayton Oberg, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, Waseca. Chris Bjorklund sang and Mrs. Margaret Carlson was organist.

Pallbearers were Eugene Anderson, Kenneth Anderson,Lawrence Andrews,Roy Borg, Dewey Newlander and Elwood Peterson.

Preceding him in death were his parents and 9 brothers and sisters. Surviving are his wife, Gladys of Lindstrom; and his son Jack of Steven's Point, Wis; Jacks family Marilyn, his wife and daughters Jill and Jennifer Bagwell.

     Leo Bagwell was born in 1895. He was the son of Albert Galliton Bagwell and Nancy A. E. Sparks.

     Ada Bagwell was born on 29 October 1885 in Clay County, Texas.¹ She was the daughter of Albert Galliton Bagwell and Nancy A. E. Sparks. As of 3 January 1907,her married name was Hershner. Ada Bagwell married George Mattison Hershner on 3 January 1907 at San Bernardino County, California. She married Merrit Nicholas Bagwell, son of Richard Robert Bagwell and Cassandra Janes Rose, on 25 January 1900.² Lucy Ironia McReynolds died on 10 February 1965 in West Paducah, Kentucky, at age 85.¹ She was buried at Oddfellow Cemetery, Heath, McCracken County, Kentucky.¹

     Willard Wiley Bagwell was born on 20 October 1910 in Kentucky.¹ He was the son of Merrit Nicholas Bagwell and Lucy Ironia McReynolds. Willard Wiley Bagwell married Martha Louise Houser on 27 October 1934 at Paducah, Kentucky. Willard Wiley Bagwell died on 6 December 2002 in Tennessee at age 92.¹ He was buried at East View Cemetery, Union City, Obion County, Tennessee.¹

     Key Kevil Bagwell was born on 8 September 1908 in Graves County, Kentucky.¹ He was the son of Merrit Nicholas Bagwell and Lucy Ironia McReynolds. Key Kevil Bagwell married Mary Ella Milliken after 1940.² Key Kevil Bagwell died on 20 March 1981 in Paducah, MCCracken County, Kentucky, at age 72.¹ He was buried at Mount Kenton Cemetery, Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.¹

     Pauline Bagwell was born on 30 April 1913.¹ She was the daughter of Merrit Nicholas Bagwell and Lucy Ironia McReynolds. As of after 1930,her married name was Huggins. Pauline Bagwell married Charles C. Huggins after 1930. Pauline Bagwell died on 15 January 2008 in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky, at age 94

She was born April 30, 1913. Mrs. Burrows retired from Concord Elementary School as a teacher and was a member of Paducah/McCracken County Retired Teachers. She was a member of Milburn Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Wava (Eddy) Grandon and Gayle Ingram (Bruce) Ferguosn; one sister, Ophie Trevathan Vance; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and three wonderful caregivers, Shirley Bogard, Janice Brannon and Frances Dalli.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, C. C. Huggins; her second husband, Walter Burrows; four sisters, Sara Griffith, Thelma Wyatt, Viniard Humphreys and Avella Geurin; and two brothers, Willard and Key Bagwell. Her parents were Merritt and Ironia McReynolds Bagwell.¹ She was buried at Harris Cemetery, Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.¹

     Charles C. Huggins was born circa 1907. He married Pauline Bagwell, daughter of Merrit Nicholas Bagwell and Lucy Ironia McReynolds, after 1930. Charles C. Huggins died on 5 November 1977 in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky.

     Viniard E. Bagwell was born on 5 February 1902. She was the daughter of Merrit Nicholas Bagwell and Lucy Ironia McReynolds. As of after 1930,her married name was Humprhreys. Viniard E. Bagwell married Devella B. Humprhreys after 1930. Viniard E. Bagwell died on 4 October 1989 at age 87.

     Devella B. Humprhreys was born on 24 July 1902. He married Viniard E. Bagwell, daughter of Merrit Nicholas Bagwell and Lucy Ironia McReynolds, after 1930. Devella B. Humprhreys died on 6 June 1991 at age 88.
