Mr. Sammy Bagwell of Cowarts passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Southeast Health. He was 67.

A Celebration of Life service for Sammy will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Cowarts Baptist Church with Dr. Ricky Plummer and Reverend Jonathan Sorensen officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 3 P.M. Sunday, November 24, 2024.

Sammy was born October 4, 1957. Sammy worked for Roadway as a local driver for 25 years. After retirement, he then followed his desire to be self-employed and start up his own business, Bagwell Landscaping. Sammy was the “Michelangelo of dirt” as quoted by one of his customers. He loved to move dirt around and was known as a perfectionist.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Nettie Lou Bagwell, foster parents John Robert and Martha Steele, mother-in-law Betty Southerland and sister-in-law Libby Bagwell.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Pattie Southerland Bagwell, son Jason Bagwell, brothers Wallace Bagwell, Jackie Bagwell (Jaqueline), Gerald Bagwell (Laura), Ryan Bagwell (Debra), sisters Nina Armstrong (Squeaky), Debra Fields (Lamar), foster brother Keith Steele (Paula), father-in-law Harold Southerland, brother-in-law Duane Southerland (Lovan), sister-in-law Cathy Reddoch (Larry), several nieces, nephews and the Breakfast Broadway Crew.

     Pattie Southerland married Sammy Bagwell, son of Harold Louis Bagwell and Nettie Lou Lamb, after 1976.

     Jason Bagwell is the son of Sammy Bagwell and Pattie Southerland.

     Ryan Bagwell is the son of Harold Louis Bagwell and Nettie Lou Lamb.

     Katherine Nicole Bagwell is the daughter of Jerry Wayne Bagwell and Leanna Rose.

     William M. Maxwell married Frances Linnie Hyder on 4 February 1900 at Henderson County, North Carolina.

     Brian Dean Bagwell was born on 31 October 1971 in Gaffney, Cherokee County, South Carolina. He was the son of Ronald Dean Bagwell and Evelyn Childers. Brian Dean Bagwell married Judy Yvonne Spencer in 1995 at Gaffney, Cherokee County, South Carolina. Brian Dean Bagwell married Rolanda Lynn Spencer circa 1999. Brian Dean Bagwell died on 27 November 2024 in Gaffney, Cherokee County, South Carolina, at age 53.

     Judy Yvonne Spencer married Brian Dean Bagwell, son of Ronald Dean Bagwell and Evelyn Childers, in 1995 at Gaffney, Cherokee County, South Carolina.

     Mary Ann Bayne married Larry Dean Bagwell, son of Alton Neville Bagwell and Pauline Carter, on 23 October 1971 at Simpsonville, South Carolina.

     Frances Lee Kinard married Kenneth Ray Bagwell, son of Alton Neville Bagwell and Pauline Carter, on 26 August 1967 at Pelzer, South Carolina.

     James DIllon married Gillian Jeanne Bagwell, daughter of Richard Herbold Bagwell and Elizabeth Rosaria Loverde, on 25 May 1985 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.

     Rachel Hope Bagwell is the daughter of Richard Herbold Bagwell and Elizabeth Rosaria Loverde. Rachel Hope Bagwell married (?) Crossman after 1980.

     Joyce Elizabeth Bagwell was born on 10 January 1951 in Austell, Cobb County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Ernest James Bagwell and Thelma Jewell Shaw. Joyce Elizabeth Bagwell died on 30 November 2024 in Dallas, Paulding County, Georgia, at age 73


Ms. Joyce Elizabeth Blackston, age 73, of Dallas, Georgia passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 1, 1951 in Austell, Georgia to Mr. Ernest J.B. Bagwell and Mrs. Thelma Jewell Shaw Bagwell. She worked as a loan officer for Georgia Heritage Bank.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her spouse, Tom Kiley; sister, Martha Joan Shipp.

Joyce is survived by her son, Gregory Lee Blackston (Shelly); grandson, Tyler Blackston; great grandson, Gabriel Lee Wilson Blackston; other extended family and friends.

Ms. Blackston's wishes were to be cremated and no further services as planned at this time.

     Juanita Carrie Gardner was born on 26 August 1879 in California. As of after 15 January 1932,her married name was Bagwell. She married William Henry Bagwell, son of Jonathan Henry Bagwell and Margarete Ellen Owen, after 15 January 1932. Juanita Carrie Gardner died on 31 January 1962 in San Francisco County, California, at age 82. She was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Colma, San Mateo County, California.

     Lee Roy Attaway married Verla Alta Bagwell, daughter of William Alfred Bagwell and Roma Evelyn McQuay, on 28 February 1957 at Tulare County, California. Lee Roy Attaway and Verla Alta Bagwell were divorced on 20 April 1964 at Linn, Oregon.

     Darrel J. Ayler married Verla Alta Bagwell, daughter of William Alfred Bagwell and Roma Evelyn McQuay, in August 1964 at Skamania County, Washington.

     William Dennis Cunningham was born on 9 June 1945 in Richmond, Virginia. He married Verla Alta Bagwell, daughter of William Alfred Bagwell and Roma Evelyn McQuay, before 1971. William Dennis Cunningham and Verla Alta Bagwell were divorced on 7 December 1979 at Linn County, Oregon. William Dennis Cunningham died on 1 August 2014 in Oregon at age 69.
