Mrs. Engram was born in Vienna, GA to the late E.M. Smith and Stella K. Huff Smith. She attended college in Valdosta and received a degree from the college in Milledgeville, GA. Mrs. Engram taught school for 31 years, 27 of those years in Waycross, 10 years as Principal of Alice Street and Quarterman Street School and retired from Morton Avenue School in 1970.
Mrs. Engram was a member of the Waycross First Presbyterian Church, the Georgia Educators Association, Retired Teachers Association and former Secretary of the Waycross Teachers Association.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Waldo Engram, Sr., her first husband Lamar Taft Walea and a step-son, Ashley Engram.
Survivors include one daughter, Gwen Walea Lewis (Wallace A.), Valdosta, two granddaughters, Lynn Trumm (Keith), Hahira, LuAnne Jordan (Steve), Statesboro, four great grandchildren, Zackary Lewis Bentley, Jesse Pierce Bentley, Kathryn LuAnne Bentley, all of Hahira, Spencer Haynes Jordan, Statesboro, one great-great granddaughter, Isabella Amelia Bentley, Jackson, MS, two step grandchildren, Larry Engram, Brian Engram, both of Waycross and other relatives.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday at Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 til 10:45 am Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

A Ware County native and lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Donald Leroy Laughinghouse, Sr. and Ida Ruth Ray Laughinghouse. She attended Waycross Public Schools and was a member of Second Baptist Church. Later she retired from the Southern Bell Business Office in Waycross after 40 years.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence “Larry” Ashley Engram, Jr. of Waycross, and James Brian Engram (late wife Susan) of Blackshear; one granddaughter, Lindsey Thomas (husband Jason); one sister, Glenna Griffis Lampp of Waycross; step-sister, Gwen Lewis of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews including Bruce and Donna Crawford, Donnie and Faye Laughinghouse, Terry Laughinghouse, Pam Sperry all of Waycross, John and Diane Griffis of Blackshear, Tim and Holly Griffis of Milton; several great nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Sandy Allen of Waycross.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday (December 8, 2017) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends 1 until 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family has requested a private burial of her ashes will be held at Oakland Cemetery.

Karen enjoyed her two golden retrievers; Starr and Pricilla, and company of many cats. Karen was a Christian and was baptized at Kokomo Foursquare Church.
Karen is survived by her siblings, Jackie (Mike) Myers and Kenneth Bagwell; niece, Cassie Jolly; and nephew, Jessie Myers.

Karen's friends and family are welcome to join together for a time of visitation on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service, also at the mortuary.1
