Doris Bagwell Goldsmith, 92, wife of the late Rev. Thomas “Frank” Goldsmith, went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2020.

Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joel Fred Bagwell and Eva Mull Bagwell. Doris was retired from the former Liberty Life Insurance Company and a member of City View Baptist Church and the Golden Circle Sunday School Class.

Doris is survived by her niece and nephew: Betty and Ronald Taylor; step-grandson: Jeffery Spear and wife Janice; step-great-granddaughter: Cayla Spear and step-great-grandson: Josh Spear.

Along with her parents and husband, Doris was also predeceased by 2 sisters: Bonnie Jefferson and Juanita Dorr; 6 brothers: Joel W. Bagwell, James C. Bagwell, Claude H. Bagwell, J.B. Bagwell, Carl M. Bagwell and Elcaney Bagwell; stepdaughter: Jenoka Frazier.

He was Private, 1st Class in November 18, 1918 and promoted to Sergant in Jun 26, 1918. He was in the 29th Company, 8th Tng Battalion 157 Dep Brigade to June 15, 1918.1 Carlton Layfayette Bagwell married Nina Starr after 1923.      Jiles Leon Bagwell was also known as Giles Leon Bagwell. He was born on 18 March 1901 in Pickens County, South Carolina.1 He was the son of Calvin David Bagwell and Etta L. Hopkins. Jiles Leon Bagwell married Lucia Mae Capps on 15 March 1921 at Pickens County, South Carolina. Jiles Leon enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on 4 June 1926 at Paris Island, South Carolina.1 On 15 May 1930, Robert Evans and Albert Duffy were shot to death in Evan's home near Lakehurst, New Jersey. Jiles Leon Bagwell was charged with their murders. It is unknown at the time I am writing this whether he was found innocent or guilty or the circumstances behind the crime.1 He married Mary Wade after 1965. Jiles Leon Bagwell died in 1980. He was buried at Graceland West Cemetery and Mausoleum, Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina.2

Mrs. Lucia Capps Bagwell, of Avice Dale Drive, Route 8, Greenville, wife of J. L. (Don) Bagwell, died at a local hospital at 9:45 a.m. yesterday following a serious illness of three days.

A daughter of the late John and Ada Orr Capps, she was born in Anderson County, May 31, 1902. She had lived in Easley for many years before coming to Greenville in 1940.

She was a member of Julian Avenue Baptist Church and the Fidelis Class of the Sunday school.

Surviving also are three daughters, Mrs. Joe Allen (Helen) and Mrs. Grady Barett (Lucille) of Greenville, and Mrs. Ruail Edens (Juanita) of Easley; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur McQueen of Easley and Mrs. Bill Phillips of Greenville; one brother, J. W. Capps of Piedmont; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Julian Avenue Baptist Church by the Rev. W. Gary Cooper and Rev. C. B. Lockee. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

The body is at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, but will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Allen, 1 Templewood Drive, but will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.1 She was buried at Graceland West Cemetery and Mausoleum, Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina.1
