Claude Ernest Bagwell, age 82, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Winston Salem, NC on July 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Joel W. Bagwell and the late Amelia Behre Bagwell. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Capsco Inc. After retirement he worked with Recycling Centers for Anderson County. He enjoyed his Western movies. Claude recently received Christ in his heart.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Burns Bagwell; his children, Elaine Nix and Rick E. Bagwell; stepdaughters, Lisa Haynie and Karen McClain; a brother, Edwin Bagwell; and a son -in-law, Bill Owens; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his pride and joy, a Jack Russell, Lady.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Page Bagwell; daughters, Joyce Owens and Susan Hester; and a son, Joel E. Bagwell.
The Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Graceland Cemetery West at 1:00 p.m. with Mr. Rick Smith and Reverend Dr. Steve Silvey officiating.
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 4521 Liberty Highway, Anderson, SC 29621.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Joel Fred and Eva Mull Bagwell and widower of Mozelle Hensley Bagwell.

Mr. Bagwell served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the Pacific Theater.

He retired after 43 years in the trucking industry. He was a member of Groveland Baptist Church in Taylors.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mitzi Bagwell of Greer; five grandchildren, Angela Hudson, Stevie Bagwell, Michael Harrison and wife Nancy, Shauna Bagwell, and Regina Harrison; three great-grandchildren, Destini Bagwell, Austin Hudson, and Hailey Harrison; and one sister, Doris Jane Goldsmith of Travelers Rest.

Mr. Bagwell was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda G. Harrison; five brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial to follow the service in Graceland West Cemetery.1 He was buried at Graceland West Cemetery and Mausoleum, Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina.1

He graduated from Parker High School Class of 1942 and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Bagwell was a Charter Member of Bethel Baptist Church and attended North Greenville Christian Fellowship Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Shandon McCarter Bagwell of the home; a daughter, Pamela B. Free of Berkeley, Calif; two sons, Bob Bagwell and Richard Bagwell of Greenville; a sister, Doris B. Goldsmith of Travelers Rest; two brothers, Johnson Bates "J.B." Bagwell and Claude H. Bagwell of Taylors; two grandchildren, Scott and his wife Kim Bagwell of Augusta, Ga., and Clayton Bagwell of Greenville; great-grandson, Logan Bagwell.

Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive with burial in Graceland East Memorial Park. The Rev. Johnny Stidham will officiate.

Visitation: 7 until 8:30 p.m. tonight at the mortuary.2 He was buried at Graceland East Memorial Park, Greenville County, South Carolina.2

     Jiles Leon Bagwell was born on 18 March 1901 in Pickens County, South Carolina.1 He was the son of Calvin David Bagwell and Etta L. Hopkins. Jiles Leon Bagwell married Lucia Mae Capps on 15 March 1921 at Pickens County, South Carolina. Jiles Leon enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on 4 June 1926 at Paris Island, South Carolina.1 On 15 May 1930, Robert Evans and Albert Duffy were shot to death in Evan's home near Lakehurst, New Jersey. Jiles Leon Bagwell was charged with their murders. It is unknown at the time I am writing this whether he was found innocent or guilty or the circumstances behind the crime.1 He married Mary Wade after 1965. Jiles Leon Bagwell died in 1980. He was buried at Graceland West Cemetery and Mausoleum, Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina.2

Mrs. Lucia Capps Bagwell, of Avice Dale Drive, Route 8, Greenville, wife of J. L. (Don) Bagwell, died at a local hospital at 9:45 a.m. yesterday following a serious illness of three days.

A daughter of the late John and Ada Orr Capps, she was born in Anderson County, May 31, 1902. She had lived in Easley for many years before coming to Greenville in 1940.

She was a member of Julian Avenue Baptist Church and the Fidelis Class of the Sunday school.

Surviving also are three daughters, Mrs. Joe Allen (Helen) and Mrs. Grady Barett (Lucille) of Greenville, and Mrs. Ruail Edens (Juanita) of Easley; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur McQueen of Easley and Mrs. Bill Phillips of Greenville; one brother, J. W. Capps of Piedmont; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Julian Avenue Baptist Church by the Rev. W. Gary Cooper and Rev. C. B. Lockee. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

The body is at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, but will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Allen, 1 Templewood Drive, but will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.1 She was buried at Graceland West Cemetery and Mausoleum, Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina.1

     Ernest Monroe Bagwell was born on 31 July 1899 in Pickens County, South Carolina. He was the son of Calvin Lynch Bagwell and Margaret Melissa Lesley. Ernest Monroe Bagwell married Margaret Jane Phillips after 1915. Ernest Monroe Bagwell died on 15 January 1966 in Pickens County, South Carolina, at age 66. He was buried at Corinth Baptist Church #1 Cemetery, Anderson County, South Carolina.
