A Memorial Service will be held on July 31, 2025, at The Chapel of Cremation Services of East Alabama. Visitation is scheduled from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., with the service to follow from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. With deep love and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Shirley Jeweldean Bagwell, who departed this life on July 23, 2025. Born to Flora Fretwell and George Roden, Shirley lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and service. A devoted Christian from a young age, she rededicated her life to Christ many years ago. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Ray Bagwell; her son, John A. Bates; her grandson, Rodney K. Borden; and her siblings: Helen, Arthur, Olen, Lucille, Pearl, Tilmon, Carl Clayton, Melvin, James Ray, and Nancy Faye Roden. Shirley is lovingly remembered by her children: Betty J. Lyle, Sherrie A. Thornton, Tammy L. Jones, and Tommy W. Thornton. She was the cherished grandmother of 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and purpose to her life. A woman of quiet strength and enduring love, Shirley was a 25-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she formed lifelong friendships and lived out her values of kindness and service. Her deep love for her family was evident in all aspects of her life, through both its joys and its challenges. She also held a special place in her heart for Vee Feather and her family, who have been a treasured part of her life for many years. Shirley's legacy of faith, compassion, and unconditional love will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.      David Spurgeon Bagwell Bagwell is the son of Dr. John Spurgeon Bagwell Jr. and Elwyn Hatchett.¹ David Spurgeon Bagwell Bagwell married Ella Susan Shamburger on 5 September 1969 at Dallas County, Texas.

     John Henry Bagwell was born on 20 May 1902.^1,2 He was the son of Thomas Arthur Bagwell and Nellie Louise Meyer.¹ John Henry Bagwell married Velma Holley after 1920.¹ John Henry Bagwell died on 25 March 1969 in Gainesville Memorial Hospital, Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas, at age 66 of a Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) [medical term for a stroke].^2,1 He was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas.²

     Velma Holley married John Henry Bagwell, son of Thomas Arthur Bagwell and Nellie Louise Meyer, after 1920.¹ Velma Holley married Roy Orda Elmore before 1940.

     Charles Ray Bagwell Sr. was born on 4 January 1924 in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas.^1,2 He was the son of John Henry Bagwell and Velma Holley.¹ Charles Ray Bagwell Sr. married Betty Jane Phillips before 1942. He enlisted in the US Navy during World War 2.² Charles Ray Bagwell Sr. married Joan Langlais on 15 January 1955 at Oakland, Alameda County, California. Charles would later meet Joan Langlais in San Pablo, CA and marry in Oakland, CA.^1,2 Charles would spend many years working as a carpenter and union worker construction countless buildings in Northern California and Oregon.² Charles Ray Bagwell Sr. died on 17 April 2015 in Oakland, Alameda County, California, at age 91.^1,2 He was buried at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Oakland, Alameda County, California.²

     Joan Langlais married Charles Ray Bagwell Sr., son of John Henry Bagwell and Velma Holley, on 15 January 1955 at Oakland, Alameda County, California. Charles would later meet Joan Langlais in San Pablo, CA and marry in Oakland, CA.^1,2

     Albert Charles Bagwell is the son of Charles Ray Bagwell Sr. and Joan Langlais.¹

     Clarence Weldon Bagwell was born on 23 June 1926 in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas.¹ He was the son of John Henry Bagwell and Velma Holley.¹ Clarence Weldon Bagwell married Delphines Alves on 9 July 1957 at Fresno, California. Clarence Weldon Bagwell and Delphines Alves were divorced in January 1968 at Alameda City, California. Clarence Weldon Bagwell married Veronica M. Villaruz after January 1968 at Alameda City, California. Clarence Weldon Bagwell and Veronica M. Villaruz were divorced in February 1972 at Alameda City, California. Clarence Weldon Bagwell died on 4 February 1972 in Alameda, California, at age 45.

     George August Bagwell was born on 27 January 1900 in Gainesville, Texas.¹ He was the son of Thomas Arthur Bagwell and Nellie Louise Meyer.¹ George August Bagwell applied for Cherokee in in the U.S., Native American Applications for Enrollment in Five Civilized Tribes (overturned), 1896 - Roll 01 - Application 93. He married Razie Bonita Elliott on 3 July 1920 at Cook County, Texas. George August Bagwell married Melba Purkerson on 6 August 1930 at Lane County, Oregon. George August Bagwell and Melba Purkerson were divorced on 12 November 1943 at Clackamas County, Oregon. George August Bagwell died on 28 May 1968 in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas, at age 68 of a heart attack.¹ He was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas.
