Mrs. Mamie Bagwell Collins, age 82 of Fayette, passed away May 4, 2021 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Survivors include one daughter: Gina Graham of Hoover, son: Thomas Richard Garner of Fayette, brother: Jimmy Allen Bagwell (Debbie) of Blakley, GA, sister: Louise Burgess (J.C.) of Chelsea, 3 grandchildren: Spencer Graham, Jordan Graham, and Stephen Hatfield, and one great-granddaughter: McKinzie.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 2-P.M. from Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Edmonds Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.


She was buried on 8 May 2021 at Edmonds-Musgrove Cemetery, Fayette County, Alabama.

Emily Jane Bagwell, age 78, of Fayette, passed away on Saturday, August 26, at Fayette Medical Center. Services for Mrs. Bagwell will be Wednesday, August 30, at Norwood-Wyatt Chapel Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time. Bro. Robert Parrish will be officiating the service.

Mrs. Bagwell is preceded in death by her husband; John C. Bagwell, her son; John Scott Bagwell, parents; Gaylon and Dorothy DuBose, sister; Ann Musgrove, and her brothers; Billy DuBose, Wayne DuBose, and Gary DuBose.

She is survived by her sons; Russell Bagwell (Tracy) of Fayette, and Greg Bagwell of Fayette, brothers; Max DuBose of Fayette, and grandchildren; Molly Bagwell of Tuscaloosa, Sadie Paredez (Justin) of Midland, Texas, Cade Bagwell of Fayette, and Kent Bagwell of Fayette.

Emily Jane Bagwell was born on November 11, 1944, in Fayette Alabama to Gaylon William DuBose and Dorothy Dix Corbett DuBose. She married John C. Bagwell on August 28, 1962, in Lebanon, Indiana. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a master’s degree in English and a minor in science. She taught Science/English at Winfield High School. She transferred to Fayette County High School in 1986. She also taught English at Bevill State Community College at Hamilton and Fayette Campus.

She was buried on 30 August 2023 at Fayette Memorial Gardens, Fayette, Fayette County, Alabama.2

     Jesse Ray Bagwell was born on 15 March 1867 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.1 He was the son of George LaFayette Bagwell and Mary Bethaney Laster. Jesse Ray Bagwell married Henrietta Eliza Johnson on 19 August 1892 at Thackerville, Indian Territory (Oklahoma).2 Jesse Ray Bagwell and Richard Dick Bagwell lived in 1940 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma; In 1940, Richard was living with his father and mother after getting a divorce with two of his children. Jesse Ray Bagwell died in 1947 in Norman, Oklahoma, On August 19, 1892, a Double Wedding, Jesse Ray Bagwell married Etta Johnson, and Jesse's sister, Georgie Ann (Anna Georgie) married Matthew George Moutray. Moutray and Etta Johnson were cousins.

Jesse along with his father owned a store in Thackerville, Indian Territory around 1892, from a stationary I found in the Texas State Archives, stating the name was, Bagwell & Son, Thackerville, I.T. that Jesse used.1 He was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma.1
