He married Flora May Bagwell, daughter of Charles Henry Bagwell and Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Gribble, on 15 September 1918 at Maryville, Blount County, Tennessee. Melvin Kansas "Ben" Corum died on 6 November 1966 in Gilmer, Georgia, at age 67.1 He was buried at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Elijay, Gilmer County, Georgia.1

Ruth was born Dec 9, 1926, daughter of Ottaway and Nellie Hughes McCarter, in Greenville, SC. She is survived by her son, Richard and wife Donna of Greenville; daughter, Pamela B. Free and husband Greg, of San Francisco, CA; daughter-in-law, Cadie Bagwell of Greenville; grandson Scott Bagwell and his wife Kim, and two great grandsons, Logan and Evan Bagwell, all of Louisville, KY.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Carl M. Bagwell; son Robert (Bobby) Bagwell; grandson Clayton Bagwell; two brothers and three sisters.

Ruth graduated from Parker High School in 1943 and then began a lifetime of work. During WWII she worked in the War Department in Washington, DC; came back home and began raising a family. She later worked at Vaughn’s Trim Shop; City Glass & Trim; BYRD Furniture and retired from Celanese Fibers. She then spent 15 years working in the office of her youngest son’s business.

She was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church.

The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Bruce Gray, his nurse Shawn and the staff at Vascular Surgery of Greenville. Also, Louise Bryant and Elizabeth Hayes, care givers, for their dedicated time and service to mother.

Internment at Graceland East on 2206 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville.

She was buried at Graceland East Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Simpsonville, Greenville County, South Carolina.

Robert A. "Bob" Bagwell, 50, beloved husband of Cadie Bagwell, died Thursday, September 11, 2008, after a brief illness.

Born in Greenville, Bob was the son of Ruth Shandon Bagwell and the late Carl Mull Bagwell. He attended Wade Hampton High School and was self-employed as a paving contractor.

Bob had a tremendous passion for life. His colorful style and love for life allowed him to live each day to its fullest. Bob's trusting nature and big heart were his most endearing qualities, and his love for family and friends will never be lost.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Ruth Shandon Bagwell; his brother, Richard Bagwell and wife Donna; his sister, Pamela B. Free and husband Greg; and his dearly loved dogs, Jed and Luke.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary, followed by burial at Graceland East Memorial Park.
