He was predeceased by his parents, "Buster" Bagwell & Babe Campbell Bagwell; his brothers, Fornie, Jerry, Larry, Jeff, Ralph, Dean & Johnny; his sister, Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara "Little Squaw" Jean Bagwell; his sons, Steve (Debbie) of Greenup, IL, Ray Jr. (Gina) of Lillington, NC; his daughters, Debra (Larry) Hendricks, Deanne (Eric) Thompson, both of Chesapeake & Donna (Hank) Williams of Virginia Beach; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Charles Robert (Beverly) Kemp & Chris (John) Allen; & three sisters, Ruth Jones of FL, Rosemary (Wade) Moorman & Joan (Dale) Rhodes, all of IL. Ray was a long standing member of Virginia Beach First Church of The Nazarene, retired from the Navy serving in Korea and Vietnam, retired from Preston Trucking Co., a member of the Atlantic Masonic Lodge No. 2 & owner of Ray's Pig Pickin & Bar-B-Q. Ray's life will be celebrated Friday, Feb 9th at Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your choice of the Heart Association, Kidney Foundation or the Diabetes Association.1
He was buried at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, Chesapeake City, Virginia.1

Barbara attended Temple Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA. She loved the Lord, gospel singing, fishing, traveling and Tribute Quartet.
She is survived by her children, Charles Kemp (Beverly), Chris Allen (John), Steve Bagwell (Debbie), Debbie Hendricks, Sr. (Larry), Donna Williams (Hank), Ray Bagwell, Jr. (Gina), and Deanne Smith (Ron); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, parents, 7 siblings, and 1 great grandson.
Her loss brings a sadness that closes another chapter of her generations of family. Lots of good memories. We have a hope in Christ for a grand reunion.
The family requests flowers to only be roses or carnations due to allergies; or, if desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temple Baptist Church Mission Fund. Services will be held at Hollomon-Brown, Great Bridge Chapel on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 2:00PM, with a visitation beginning one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at the adjacent Chesapeake Memorial Gardens following the service.
