Jeanne M. died in 2006.¹ She was buried at Williamsburg Memorial Park, Williamsburg West, James City County, Virginia.¹

     John Richard Simpson was born on 23 September 1866 in Powhatan County, Virginia.¹ He married Mary Adelaide Bagwell, daughter of William Henry Hawes Bagwell II and Ann Augusta Gresham, before 1909.¹ John Richard Simpson died on 27 January 1940 in Richmond City, Virginia, at age 73.¹

     Meriam Alma Bagwell was born on 12 September 1918 in Alabama.^2,1 She was the daughter of William Riley Bagwell and Evelyn Lawless.¹ As of after 1935,her married name was Emmick.¹ Meriam Alma Bagwell married Walton R. Emmick after 1935.¹ Meriam Alma Bagwell died on 19 September 1990 in Los Angeles County, California, at age 72.¹ She was buried at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Colma, San Mateo County, California.¹

     Walton R. Emmick was born in 1916.¹ He married Meriam Alma Bagwell, daughter of William Riley Bagwell and Evelyn Lawless, after 1935.¹ Walton R. Emmick died on 30 March 2003 in California.¹ He was buried at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Colma, San Mateo County, California.¹

     James Wasson Gambrell was born on 5 October 1859.¹ He married Sallie Elizabeth Bagwell, daughter of Thomas Pleasant Bagwell and Sarah Elizabeth Davis, after 1875.¹ James Wasson Gambrell died on 26 November 1910 at age 51.¹ He was buried at Broadmouth Church Cemetery, Honea Path, Abbeville County, South Carolina.¹

     Ernest Ray Bagwell Sr. was born on 23 March 1933 in Pinson, Jefferson County, Alabama.¹ He was the son of Otis Lester Bagwell and Babe Campbell.¹ Ernest Ray Bagwell Sr. married Barbara Jean "Little Squaw" Kemp on 11 November 1957 at Illinois.¹ Ernest Ray Bagwell Sr. died on 2 February 2007 in Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois, at age 73

CHESAPEAKE - Ernest "Ray" Bagwell Sr., 73, passed away Feb. 2, 2007, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Healthcenter, Mattoon, Ill. He was predeceased by his parents, "Buster" Bagwell & Babe Campbell Bagwell; his brothers, Fornie, Jerry, Larry, Jeff, Ralph, Dean & Johnny; his sister, Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara "Little Squaw" Jean Bagwell; his sons, Steve (Debbie) of Greenup, IL, Ray Jr. (Gina) of Lillington, NC; his daughters, Debra (Larry) Hendricks, Deanne (Eric) Thompson, both of Chesapeake & Donna (Hank) Williams of Virginia Beach; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Charles Robert (Beverly) Kemp & Chris (John) Allen; & three sisters, Ruth Jones of FL, Rosemary (Wade) Moorman & Joan (Dale) Rhodes, all of IL. Ray was a long standing member of Virginia Beach First Church of The Nazarene, retired from the Navy serving in Korea and Vietnam, retired from Preston Trucking Co., a member of the Atlantic Masonic Lodge No. 2 & owner of Ray's Pig Pickin & Bar-B-Q. Ray's life will be celebrated Friday, Feb 9th at Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your choice of the Heart Association, Kidney Foundation or the Diabetes Association.¹

     Barbara Jean "Little Squaw" Kemp was also known as Barbara Jean McNutly. She was born on 30 July 1931 in Illinois.¹ As of 11 November 1957,her married name was Bagwell.¹ She married Ernest Ray Bagwell Sr., son of Otis Lester Bagwell and Babe Campbell, on 11 November 1957 at Illinois.¹ Barbara Jean "Little Squaw" Kemp died on 21 June 2025 in Chesapeake, Virginia, at age 93


Barbara Jean Bagwell, 93, of Chesapeake, VA passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025 at home, with family by her side. She was born in Marshall, IL on July 30, 1931 to John Ephraim and Effie Stella Walker McNulty. She married Ernest Ray Bagwell, Sr. on November 11, 1957.
Barbara attended Temple Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA. She loved the Lord, gospel singing, fishing, traveling and Tribute Quartet.
She is survived by her children, Charles Kemp (Beverly), Chris Allen (John), Steve Bagwell (Debbie), Debbie Hendricks, Sr. (Larry), Donna Williams (Hank), Ray Bagwell, Jr. (Gina), and Deanne Smith (Ron); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, parents, 7 siblings, and 1 great grandson.
Her loss brings a sadness that closes another chapter of her generations of family. Lots of good memories. We have a hope in Christ for a grand reunion.
The family requests flowers to only be roses or carnations due to allergies; or, if desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temple Baptist Church Mission Fund. Services will be held at Hollomon-Brown, Great Bridge Chapel on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 2:00PM, with a visitation beginning one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at the adjacent Chesapeake Memorial Gardens following the service.

Danny Steven Bagwell and Betty Sue Lea were divorced on 18 December 1995 at Pasquotank County, North Carolina. Danny Steven Bagwell married Deborah Ann Conner on 19 December 1995 at Chesapeake County, Virginia.

     Ernest Ray Bagwell Jr. is the son of Ernest Ray Bagwell Sr. and Barbara Jean "Little Squaw" Kemp.¹ Ernest Ray Bagwell Jr. married Regina Lynne Beasley in 1981 at Pasquotank County, North Carolina.

     Debra Rae Bagwell is the daughter of Ernest Ray Bagwell Sr. and Barbara Jean "Little Squaw" Kemp.¹ Debra Rae Bagwell married Larry Richard Hendricks on 16 September 1978 at Chesapeake County, Virginia.

     Donna Jean Bagwell is the daughter of Ernest Ray Bagwell Sr. and Barbara Jean "Little Squaw" Kemp.¹ Donna Jean Bagwell married Stephen Anthony Lipinski on 15 August 1981 at Virginia Beach, Virginia. Donna Jean Bagwell and Stephen Anthony Lipinski were divorced on 17 March 1987 at Chesapeake County, Virginia. Donna Jean Bagwell married Henry Edward Williams on 16 February 1990 at Virginia Beach, Virginia.

     Julius Nathaniel Bagwell was born on 22 December 1952 in Guadalupe County, Texas.¹ He was the son of Johnnie Roland Bagwell and Dollis Mae Wilson. He served in the US Navy as a Seaman Apprentice (SA) during Vietnam.¹ Julius Nathaniel Bagwell married Gwendolyn Lamesa Coe on 21 June 1973 at Guadalupe County, Texas. Julius Nathaniel Bagwell and Gwendolyn Lamesa Coe were divorced on 6 February 1975 at Comal, Texas. Julius Nathaniel Bagwell married Shelia Debby Morgan on 1 December 1975 at Portsmouth, Virginia. Julius Nathaniel Bagwell died on 10 January 2013 in Norfolk, Virginia, at age 60


Portsmouth-Julius Nathaniel Bagwell, 60, of the 900 block of County Street, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10 at Harbour Pointe in Norfolk, Virginia. Julius served in the Unites States Navy, served for 12 years in the Army National Guard, and later retired after 32 years from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Nuclear Rigger. He was a member of New Testament Church, Portsmouth.

Julius leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Shelia Debbie Bagwell; three daughters; Juanita Peele, Maria Bagwell and Anita Bagwell and a son, Demond Bagwell. Also left to cherish his memory is his mother, Dollis Mae Wilson; sisters, Corrine Hartfield and Rosie Johnson; brothers, Lloyd Bagwell and Ernest Bagwell; sixteen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Julius was predeceased by his father, Johnnie Roland Bagwell, Sr;a brother, Johnnie Roland Bagwell, Jr; a sister, Mary Ann Bagwell and his grandparents, Manuel and Ethel Wilson.¹



He was buried at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Suffolk City, Virginia.¹

     Shelia Debby Morgan married Julius Nathaniel Bagwell, son of Johnnie Roland Bagwell and Dollis Mae Wilson, on 1 December 1975 at Portsmouth, Virginia.

     Gwendolyn Lamesa Coe married Julius Nathaniel Bagwell, son of Johnnie Roland Bagwell and Dollis Mae Wilson, on 21 June 1973 at Guadalupe County, Texas. Gwendolyn Lamesa Coe and Julius Nathaniel Bagwell were divorced on 6 February 1975 at Comal, Texas.

     Mary Emma Lineberry married Hiram Alex Bagwell, son of Marion Bert Bagwell and Ella Blanche Hackler, on 4 April 1964 at Alleghany, North Carolina.

     Linda (?) married John Charles Bagwell I, son of Marion Bert Bagwell and Ella Blanche Hackler, after 1948.

     Briana Rae Bagwell is the daughter of James C. Bagwell CPA and Marilyn C. (?)

     Pamela Leanda Herbert married Willard Ray Bagwell Jr., son of Dr. Willard Ray Bagwell and Nancy Lee Suttles, on 11 October 1986.¹

     Martha Bowling was born on 2 July 1849 in South Carolina. As of circa 1870,her married name was Bagwell. She died on 7 March 1926 at age 76.

     Carrie Bagwell was born circa 1872 in South Carolina. She was the daughter of Martha Bowling.

     Rhoda Ann “Omey” Bagwell was born on 12 May 1839 in South Carolina.¹ She was the daughter of Leslie William Bagwell and Polly Elanor (?)¹ As of before 1864,her married name was Alley. Rhoda Ann “Omey” Bagwell married David Jordan Alley before 1864. Rhoda Ann “Omey” Bagwell died on 27 January 1915 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, at age 75.¹ She was buried at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.¹
