He served as a Seamen 1st Class in the United States Naval Reserve during World War II.¹ Ernest Julian Oetgen Jr. died on 15 April 1955 at age 28.¹ He was buried at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery, Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.¹

     Frank Edward Oetgen was born on 29 February 1928 in Georgia. He began his work career with Wachtels Physicians Supply Company in Savannah. In 1958, he moved to Augusta, Georgia joining Marks Surgical Supply Company, serving as purchasing agent remaining there for 20 years. Mr. Oetgen later transferred to Houston, Texas living there for 2 years and on to Atlanta, Georgia living there 18 years retiring from Owens & Minor, Inc. after 40 years of service in the surgical supply field. He was a charter member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Thunderbolt and Advent Lutheran Church in Augusta, a former member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Doraville and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension. During his years, he was involved in many areas of church service to include, councilman, choir member and other areas. He participated in the Crafts Ministry at First Southern Methodist Church. Mr. Oetgen served in the United States Navy during World War II as an aviation machinist mate 3rd. class. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Sarah Ford Oetgen of Savannah; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph W. "Jody" Oetgen, Jr. of Savannah; William E. and Cindy Oetgen of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Gloria Dillon and her husband, Frederick of Pensacola, FL: granddaughter, Tori Nicole Oetgen of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her eldest son, William Eugene "Gene" Oetgen of Savannah; granddaughter, Tori Oetgen Campbell (Phillip); and great grandchildren, Grant and Miles Campbell, all of Atlanta; nieces, nephews, great nieces and other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 57 years, Joseph William "Joe" Oetgen, Sr; brother William Eugene Ford (killed in WWII); sisters Frances Henderson, Diane Strickland, and Margerite Arnett; nephew Dick Oetgen; and son Joseph William “Jody” Oetgen, Jr.

A true southerner, Sarah was born May 11, 1930 in Fair Bluff, NC to Alex Newman Ford and Mamie Bullock Ford. She began her education in North Carolina, attended high school in Florence, SC and college in Savannah, GA. After college and training she became an ASCP registered medical technologist working for 15 years at the Medical College of GA in Augusta. She later became an Associate Broker with ReMax of Atlanta for 15 years while living in Tucker, GA.

Sarah was deeply rooted in her Christian faith. As a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church in Augusta, she served a number of times as organist and choir director. She was also a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Atlanta. When she and her family returned to Savannah in 1999, they joined The Lutheran Church of the Ascension and then later The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Wilmington Island.

Sarah had many talents. Not only was she a skilled pianist and organist who loved to sing, she was also an amazing artist. She graduated from the Famous Artists School in 1969 and enjoyed painting oils, watercolors, and acrylics. After retirement, Sarah was a member of the Savannah Artist Guild, Tybee Art Association and her paintings have been featured in many collections on the East Coast.

Sarah lived a full, happy life as a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend and will be remembered fondly by all who loved her.

A joint graveside service for Sarah and her son Jody will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 2pm at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery.

     Joseph William Oetgen was born on 12 August 1956 in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia. He was the son of Joseph William Oetgen and Sarah Ford. Joseph William Oetgen died on 27 January 2022 in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, at age 65


He was born at the old Telfaire Hospital. Although he had cerebral palsy, he attended grade school in Augusta, GA where his teacher, Ms. Emily Self, said one of the greatest joys of her teaching career was when she realized she had taught him to read. He participated in the Special Olympics during school and won several awards with his powered wheelchair. He and his family moved to Atlanta in 1980 where he attended the REACH center (now the Frazer Center), and where he learned to use an electronic voice communicator which forever changed his life. He was a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church in Augusta, GA. He attended St. Michael's Lutheran church while living in Tucker, GA for 20 years. When he and his parents later returned to Savannah in 1999, they joined the Lutheran Church of the Ascension, followed by the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Wilmington Island. He was preceded in death by his, father Joseph William Oetgen, Sr; cousin, Dick Oetgen; aunts, Frances Henderson, Diane Strickland, and Margerite Arnett; and grandparents, Alec and Mamie Ford, and Walter and Pansy Oetgen. Surviving are his mother, Sarah Oetgen of Savannah; brother, William Eugene "Gene" Oetgen of Savannah; niece, Tori (Phillip) Campbell; and great nephews, Grant and Miles Campbell of Atlanta.

     Frederick Bradford Dillion was born on 7 April 1925 in Macon, Georgia. He married Gloria Oetgen, daughter of Walter Fuseler Oetgen and Pansy Bragg, on 3 September 1946 at Savannah, Georgia. Frederick Bradford Dillion lived in 2008 in Pensacola, Florida.

     Edith King was born on 29 March 1920 in Savannah, Georgia. As of circa 1940,her married name was Oetgen. She married Walter Fuseler Oetgen Jr., son of Walter Fuseler Oetgen and Pansy Bragg, circa 1940. As of circa 1985,her married name was Sullivan. Edith King married Charles S. Sullivan circa 1985. Edith King died on 26 March 2009 in Lakeland, Florida, at age 88. She was buried on 30 March 2009 at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park, Savannah, Georgia.

     Shelby Wall is the son of Herman C. Wall and Hazel Bell Bagwell.¹

     Sydney H. Graham married Robert Mays Oetgen, son of Ernest Julian Oetgen Sr. and Katherine Mays, in 1954 at Duval County, Florida.

     George A. Ellison was born on 14 June 1917. He married Alice Rosie Bagwell, daughter of George Oscar Bagwell and Artie Elizabeth Holder, after 1935. George A. Ellison died on 17 January 1991 at age 73. He was buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens, Pickens County, South Carolina.

     Wideman Franklin Roper was born on 22 September 1920 in Pickens County, South Carolina. He was a Sargent in the United States Army during World War II. He married Marge Bagwell, daughter of George Oscar Bagwell and Artie Elizabeth Holder, after 1945. Wideman Franklin Roper died on 16 May 2010 in Pickens County, South Carolina, at age 89. He was buried at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Pickens County, South Carolina.

     Herman Furman Bagwell was also known as Henry Furman Bagwell Sr.² He was born on 14 April 1933 in Pickens County, South Carolina.^1,2 He was the son of George Oscar Bagwell and Artie Elizabeth Holder.¹ Herman Furman Bagwell married Barbara Duncan circa 1956.² Herman Furman Bagwell died on 24 September 2014 in Easley, Pickens County, South Carolina, at age 81.^1,2 He was buried at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Easley, Pickens County, South Carolina.^1,2

     Herman Furman Bagwell is the son of Herman Furman Bagwell.

     Emily C. Bagwell was born on 29 March 1924.¹ She was the daughter of George Oscar Bagwell and Artie Elizabeth Holder.¹ Emily C. Bagwell died on 29 December 1972 at age 48.¹ She was buried at Greenville Memorial Gardens, Piedmont, Greenville County, South Carolina.¹

     Mary Bagwell was born on 26 January 1911 in Pickens County, South Carolina.¹ She was the daughter of George Oscar Bagwell and Artie Elizabeth Holder.¹ As of after 1925,her married name was McDonald.² Mary Bagwell married Harold F. McDonald after 1925.² Mary Bagwell died on 10 January 2004 in Greenwood County, South Carolina, at age 92.¹ She was buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens, Pickens County, South Carolina.¹
