     Rachel Smith was born on 31 July 1933 in Pickens, Pickens County, South Carolina.¹ As of after 1951,her married name was Bagwell.¹ She married John Paul Bagwell, son of Joseph Seaborn Bagwell and Jane Inez Cantrell, after 1951.¹ Rachel Smith died on 12 January 2021 in Pickens County, South Carolina, at age 87


Rachel Smith Bagwell, 87, of Pickens, wife of the late John Paul Bagwell, passed into the glories of heaven on January 12, 2021.

Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of the late Enos Smith and the late Ola Hunter Smith.

Rachel received Christ as her Savior and was a faithful and active church member from a young age. Since 1981, she was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church in Pickens. She loved to sing and was a member of her church choir and for several years served as Sunday School Secretary. Rachel was active in the Silver Threads group at Northside and enjoyed fellowshipping with the other senior saints.

She had a strong work ethic and was an employee for 45 years at Kent Manufacturing in Pickens. She made many lifelong friends at Kent. Rachel enjoyed bowling and was a member of a bowling team for several years.

Rachel loved and was loved by her family. She is survived by two nieces, June Tuck (Harold) and Joan Summey (John); and five nephews, Mike Smith (Jill), Hub Smith (Patsy), Rex Smith (Glenda), Roger Chastain (Jeri), and Chris Smith (Cindy).

In addition to her loving husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Christine Stansell and Priscilla Chastain; two brothers, Edgar Smith and Cecil Smith; and a nephew, Gary Chastain.

Rachel loved cats and claimed many homeless cats as her own over the years. Even in her recent illness in the hospital, she spoke affectionately of her current cat, Tiny, and how she missed him.

Rachel testified to many that she was alright knowing that she would soon pass from this life, always adding, "It's Jesus and me." On January 12, she went from feeling His presence to being in His presence.¹


She was buried at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Easley, Pickens County, South Carolina.¹

     Mary Joyce Roberts was born on 20 November 1940 in Chambers County, Alabama.¹ As of after 1965,her married name was Bagwell.¹ She married Henry Frank Bagwell, son of William Oscar Bagwell and Sallie Van Roberson, after 1965.¹ Mary Joyce Roberts died on 4 April 2019 in Fort Gaines, Clay County, Georgia, at age 78.¹ She was buried at New Park Cemetery, Fort Gaines, Clay County, Georgia.¹

     Elizabeth Dawn Bagwell is the daughter of Henry Frank Bagwell and Mary Joyce Roberts. Elizabeth Dawn Bagwell married Scott Anglin after 1990.

     Henry Frank Bagwell Jr. is the son of Henry Frank Bagwell and Mary Joyce Roberts.

     Curtis Matthew Bagwell is the son of Henry Frank Bagwell and Mary Joyce Roberts.

     Patrick Clay Bagwell was born in 1982. He was the son of Henry Frank Bagwell and Mary Joyce Roberts. Patrick Clay Bagwell died before 2024.

     William N. Bruce was born in 1860. He married Carrie C. Bagwell, daughter of Baylis Earl Bagwell and Theresa Adeline Wilson, after 1890. William N. Bruce died in 1930.

     Delores M. Turner married William Reynolds Bagwell, son of Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr and Katherine Louise Kennedy, on 23 December 1970 at Parker County, Texas.

     Kiyler Grace Bagwell is the daughter of Larry Gene "Trey" Bagwell III.

     Grace Angie Talley was born on 14 February 1972. As of after 1990,her married name was Bagwell. She married Stephen Jason Bagwell, son of Ernest Wayne Bagwell and Iris Elaine Nix, after 1990. Grace Angie Talley died on 4 January 2021 in Salem, South Carolina, at age 48.

     Stephen Jason Bagwell is the son of Ernest Wayne Bagwell and Iris Elaine Nix. Stephen Jason Bagwell married Grace Angie Talley after 1990. Stephen Jason Bagwell married Rebecca (?) before 2022.

     Tessa Bagwell is the daughter of Stephen Jason Bagwell and Grace Angie Talley. Tessa Bagwell married Austin McCurley after 2009.

     Wendall Reves Bagwell was born on 18 December 1925 in Los Angeles County, California. He was the son of Joy Reaves Bagwell and Mattye Graves Blacklock.
