In Loving Memory of John “Jack” Everett Bagwell.
October 6, 1941 – October 26, 2023.
It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of our beloved John Everett Bagwell. Born on October 6, 1941 in Atlanta, Georgia, Jack, as he was affectionately known, peacefully departed this world on October 26, 2023. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and brother, and a cherished friend to many.
From his early years in Duluth, Georgia, Jack displayed a zest for life and a love for his community. Graduating from Duluth High School, he embarked on a lifelong journey with his high school sweetheart, Gloria Ann Mitchell. Their love story began in the elementary school auditorium, where Jack captivated Ann’s heart with his tap-dancing skills. Together, they shared a bond that lasted a lifetime and beyond.
Jack’s athletic prowess and talents were evident from a young age. An accomplished athlete in basketball, track and field, and baseball, he always gave his all on the field. Outside of the sports arena, his talents extended to the realm of music, where his graceful voice filled the room. Jack’s immeasurable kindness and warm presence made him the glue of any group he was a part of.
After graduating from the University of Georgia, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Jack began blazing his professional trail. He briefly worked with The University of Georgia and Bank of America before finding his true calling in the textile industry. Jack joined Coats & Clark in 1975 in Albany, GA. His dedication and expertise led him to relocate the family to Greenville, SC where he spearheaded the logistics department as the Director of Customer Logistics at the new Coats & Clark Production Plant, leaving a lasting impact on the company and his colleagues.
Outside of work, Jack reveled in his favorite pastimes. With a golf club in hand, he treasured the joy of chasing the perfect swing at Radium Country Club and Pebble Creek Country Club. His love for music carried him through the years as a faithful 20-year member of the Greenville Chorale, sharing his gifted tenor voice with captivated audiences.
Jack’s faith was an integral part of his life. For twenty years, he was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Albany, Georgia, sharing in the love and fellowship of the congregation. Later, he found inspiration singing under the direction of Dr. Raymon Kyser in the Fourth Presbyterian Church Choir in Greenville. In recent years, Jack and Ann sought solace and support at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Taylors.
In his quiet moments, Jack enjoyed the companionship of his beloved English Springer Spaniel, Dooley, who was his faithful sidekick through thick and thin for 18 years. Additionally, anyone who knew Jack was well aware of his deep passion for the Georgia Bulldogs football team. He cheered on his team with unwavering enthusiasm, creating lasting memories with friends and family.
Jack will forever be cherished and missed by his devoted wife, Ann Bagwell, his loving daughter, Candace Ann Bagwell, his doting son, Rhodes Mitchell Bagwell, and his dear sister, Carolyn Allen. He leaves behind numerous extended relatives, colleagues, and friends and a legacy of love, kindness, and laughter that will always be remembered.
