Bagwell was born on 24 December 1846 in Georgia.1,2 He was the son of Blakley Bagwell and Nancy Riggins.1 On his pension appplication from Spaulding County, Georgia in 1899, Bagwell reported he was born 24 December, 1846 and enlisted in Compay I of the 5th Georgia Reserves, Cummings Brigade in April 1864; honorably discharged in April 1865. Bagwell reported he receive a gunshot wound at Bentonville, North Carolina on 20 March 1865 where the ball entered just below the right elbow and ranged upward passing through the elbow rendering his arm substaintially useless. Four inches of bone was taken out. Application witness included H.T. Coppedges, W.E. Drewry, and C.S. Coppedges, all of Spaulding County, Georgia.2 Peyton L. Bagwell married Lucy Tankersley on 6 March 1884 at Spalding County, Georgia.2 Peyton and Lucy moved from Georgia to Alabama on 29 November 1910. Peyton L. Bagwell died on 28 November 1926 at age 79.2 He was buried at Ebenezer Cemetery, West Point, Cullman County, Alabama.2
