Jesse proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he worked as a cook and provided meals and comfort to his fellow servicemen.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 30 years, Mary “Bobbie” Bagwell, who passed away in 2004, as well as his sons Doug, Luther, and Sammy.

Mary Bernice Kohutek Bagwell passed from this life on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. She was born April 22, 1931, at Sweet Home, Texas, to Albert and Lottie Lee Kohutek. In her 93 years of living loud and large, she worked hard, raising three children while homemaking, turkey farming, sewing, ranching, school bus driving, flower arranging and later management of several businesses she and her husband, Curtis, started. In leisure time, she truly enjoyed fishing, dancing and gambling. She grew up playing penny-ante poker with her brothers and sisters, and she was hard to beat. In later years, she was blessed to travel extensively to places like the Panama Canal, Alaska, Mexico (by train), and various cruise destinations. She became an art collector from her many finds at estate sales, and her and Curtis’ home has been a gallery for many years. She loved being out in nature and never ceased to marvel at God’s beautifulcreation.
B. Bagwell, as she was known by most, is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Curtis Bagwell; her three children, Brenda Boor (John) of Meyersville, Paul Wauson (Mitzi) of Victoria, and Jennifer Miramontez (Ray) of Wimberley; two stepchildren, Brian Bagwell and Robin Bagwell; and eleven grandchildren, Sarah Cusack, Chelsea Wauson, Ada Cusack Hooker, Hannah Cusack Cowart, David Cusack, Max Wauson, Jullianna Cusack Bevere, Vincent Wauson, William Cusack, Colton Wauson and Amanda Wauson. God also blessed “B.” with 12 great-grandchildren. Quite a brood she left behind to hold her in fond remembrance!
Of her eleven siblings, five survive her – Wayne Kohutek (Ginger) of New Braunfels, Al Kohutek of Pt. O’Connor, Betty Howard of Victoria, Glenn Kohutek (Alice) of Schroeder, and Janet Wisdom of Pearsall, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Those dear ones who predeceased her include her parents; brothers, Adam, Arlen, Dennis, Bobby and Allen Ray Kohutek; sister, Doris Eidem; nieces, Carol Kinder and Joanna LeGalley; and nephews, Phillip Kohutek and Scott Kohutek.
She will be remembered as a precious wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great-grandmother, “hell-raiser” and friend, whose enthusiasm for life touched us all.
