     John Calhoun Bagwell was born on 12 April 1853 in Georgia.^1,3 He was the son of John Daniel Bagwell and Elizabeth Towers.³ John Calhoun Bagwell appeared on the 1860 United States Federal Census for Browning, DeKalb County, Georgia, enumerated on 20 June 1860.⁴ Ross Bagwell (John Calhoun Bagwell's 6 generation grandson) said that John Calhoun Bagwell was a young medic's helper during the Civil War.

At the age of eleven, Dr. Bagwell helped his father pick up the wounded men on the battle field during the Civil War.² He appeared on the 1870 United States Federal Census for Browning, DeKalb County, Georgia, enumerated on 16 August 1870.⁵ He married Equilla Matthews on 21 October 1875.⁶ Shortly after the arrival of their first son, they came in a covered wagon to Texas, settling in Cook County. John Calhoun Bagwell died on 14 April 1940 in Claude, Armstrong County, Texas, at age 87.¹ He was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Equilla Matthews was born on 5 November 1856 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. As of 21 October 1875,her married name was Bagwell. She married John Calhoun Bagwell, son of John Daniel Bagwell and Elizabeth Towers, on 21 October 1875.¹ Equilla Matthews died on 25 August 1935 in Claude, Armstrong County, Texas, at age 78.¹ She was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Elmer Tyson Bagwell was born on 20 April 1877 in Texas.¹ He was the son of John Calhoun Bagwell and Equilla Matthews. Elmer Tyson Bagwell married Ida Victoria Hemphill in 1898 at Clarendon, Texas. Elmer Tyson Bagwell died on 6 March 1952 at age 74.¹ He was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Ida Victoria Hemphill was born on 20 February 1879 in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas.¹ She married Elmer Tyson Bagwell, son of John Calhoun Bagwell and Equilla Matthews, in 1898 at Clarendon, Texas. As of 1899,her married name was Bagwell. Ida Victoria Hemphill died on 4 December 1945 in Temple, Bell County, Texas, at age 66.¹ She was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Minnie Marietta Bagwell was born on 14 July 1899 in Armstrong County, Texas.¹ She was the daughter of Elmer Tyson Bagwell and Ida Victoria Hemphill. As of before 1920,her married name was Dye. Minnie Marietta Bagwell married Horace Beauford Dye before 1920. Minnie Marietta Bagwell died on 16 February 1969 in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas, at age 69 CLAUDE – Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie M. Dye, 69, of Claude, will be at 2 pm. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church.

The Rev. Howard McClure, a Baptist Minister from San Diego, Calif. will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor.

Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Murphy Funeral Home of Clarendon.

Mrs. Dye died Sunday morning in High Plains Baptist Hospital at Amarillo following a long illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Claude and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, a daughter, two sisters, three bothers, two granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.

     Horace Beauford Dye was born on 18 June 1895 in Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹ He married Minnie Marietta Bagwell, daughter of Elmer Tyson Bagwell and Ida Victoria Hemphill, before 1920. Horace Beauford Dye died on 10 August 1971 in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas, at age 76.¹ He was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Clara Bagwell was born on 14 February 1901 in Texas.¹ She was the daughter of Elmer Tyson Bagwell and Ida Victoria Hemphill. As of before 1924,her married name was McClure. Clara Bagwell married John Weldon McClure before 1924. Clara Bagwell died on 7 December 1975 at age 74 Mrs. Clara V. McClure, 74, of Amarillo, died Sunday.

The Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr Winfred Moore, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors.

Mrs. McClure was a native of Armstrong County. She had lived in Amarillo for 20 years after moving from Claude. She was a member of the First Baptist Church here

Survivors include the widower, three sons, three brothers, one sister, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

     Lawrence T. Bagwell also went by the name of Bud Bagwell. He was born on 7 March 1904 in Texas.¹ He was the son of Elmer Tyson Bagwell and Ida Victoria Hemphill. Lawrence T. Bagwell married Martha Profitt Ragle before 1933.² Lawrence T. Bagwell died on 12 September 1990 at age 86 CLAUDE - L. T. "Bud" Bagwell, 86, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 1990.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Claude Church of Christ, with Bob Setliff officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Boxwell Brother Funeral Directors.

Mr. Bagwell, born in Armstrong County, had been a life-long resident. In 1928, he won the 880 yard run at the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships, where he earned an invitation to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials. He was inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame in 1989. He was a stock farmer. He was a member of Claude Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, in 1988.

Survivors include a son, Rex L. Bagwell of Claude, a daughter-in-law, Mary Bagwell of Claude; two brothers, Ralph E. Bagwell and E.T. "Pat" Bagwell, both of Claude; a sister, Evelyn Blanton of Claude; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bagwell was born in Armstrong County and had lived in Armstrong County most of his life. He was a graduate of Claude High School, where he was a member of the track team. He attended Texas A&M University and was in the ROTC. He served four years in the National Guard.

He was a retired farmer and rancher.

Mr. Bagwell served on the Claude School Board and the Claude City Council. He served one term as mayor. He was a past president of the Armstrong County Farm Bureau and a member of the Southwestern Cattle Feeders Association.

Mr. Bagwell was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was in the Men's Sunday School Class and had served on the Deacon Board.

He married Lily Pafford in 1934 at Amarillo.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patsy Goin of Beaumont and Nancy Gillespie of Claude; a sister, Evelyn Blanton of Claude; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

     Julius Oscar Bagwell was also known as Oscar Bagwell. He was born on 21 March 1889 in Gainesville, Texas.¹ He was the son of John Calhoun Bagwell and Equilla Matthews. Julius Oscar Bagwell married Lillian Elizabeth Cobb before 1912.¹ Julius Oscar Bagwell died on 27 September 1959 in Potter County, Texas, at age 70.¹ He was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Lillian Elizabeth Cobb was also known as Lillie E. Bagwell. Lillian Elizabeth Cobb also went by the name of Lilly Cobb. She was born on 30 October 1894 in Texas.¹ As of before 1912,her married name was Bagwell. She married Julius Oscar Bagwell, son of John Calhoun Bagwell and Equilla Matthews, before 1912.² Lillian Elizabeth Cobb died on 23 July 1997 at age 102.¹ She was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Herbert Raymond Bagwell was also known as Raymond Bagwell. He was born on 20 December 1917 in Armstrong County, Texas.¹ He was the son of Julius Oscar Bagwell and Lillian Elizabeth Cobb. Mr. Bagwell was born in Armstrong County. During World War II, he served in the Army with the 24th Infantry Div. 21st Regiment, Company B. He was discharged as a staff sergeant.

Mr. Bagwell farmed in Armstrong County until moving to Claude in 1976. After his retirement, he worked as a carpenter and furniture maker.

He married Ardyth Wertenberger in 1947 at Plainview.

He was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Armstrong County. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked as a mechanic.

He married Jean Nell Best in 1940 in Clovis, N.M. She died in 1987. He married Ruby Spalding in 1990.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kathlyn Keeton of Midland; a son, Tony Bagwell of Austin; a daughter-in-law, Suanna Bagwell of Plainview; three stepdaughters, Sharla Golightly and Frankie Lockhart, both of Dallas, and Tracie Spalding of Amarillo; a stepson, Dexter Spalding of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A son, Stephen Bagwell is deceased.

     Lena Beth Bagwell was born on 7 February 1925 in Texas. She was the daughter of Julius Oscar Bagwell and Lillian Elizabeth Cobb. As of after 1945,her married name was Scoggins. Lena Beth Bagwell married Paul Scoggins after 1945. Lena Beth Bagwell died on 15 August 2020 at age 95

Lena Beth Scoggins, age 95, of Van Buren, Arkansas was called to her heavenly home on August 15, 2020.

Lena was born on February 7, 1925 in Claude, Texas to parents, Lillie and Oscar Bagwell.
She was one of four children and was raised in Claude. The family made their move to Amarillo and later Clovis, New Mexico where she lived for about 10 years. She made the metroplex her home a couple years and retired to Van Buren around 1993, where she lived until the time of her passing. Lena will be remembered as a loving mother and doting grandmother to her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. A. beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, will be dearly missed.
Lena is preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, Rose Marie, Jimmy Bagwell, and Eugene Bagwell; husband, Paul Scoggins; her son, Mark Scoggins; daughter, Patsy Bell, and granddaughter, Tammy Smith.

Lena is survived by her daughter, Sharon Hendricks and husband, Edward; grandchildren, Jeff Hendricks of North Richland Hills, Amy Piukana, and husband, Toff, of Decatur, Kerry Hendricks, and wife, Lou Ann, of Keller, Bethany Sours of Clovis, New Mexico, and Robin Bell of Colorado; numerous great-grandchildren, and a host of other family friends and caregivers.

She was buried at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, Colleyville, Tarrant County, Texas.

     Jimmie Cobb Bagwell was born on 27 March 1930 in Texas.¹ He was the son of Julius Oscar Bagwell and Lillian Elizabeth Cobb. Jimmie Cobb Bagwell died on 19 December 1989 at age 59.¹ He was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Emma Belinda Bagwell was born on 16 December 1887 in Texas.¹ She was the daughter of John Calhoun Bagwell and Equilla Matthews. Emma Belinda Bagwell died on 22 May 1970 at age 82.¹ She was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Charles Henry Bagwell was born on 29 September 1892 in Texas.¹ He was the son of John Calhoun Bagwell and Equilla Matthews. Charles Henry Bagwell married Mary Elizabeth Cobb after 1910.      Willie Mae Bagwell was born on 18 December 1900 in Texas.¹ She was the daughter of John Calhoun Bagwell and Equilla Matthews. Willie Mae Bagwell married Sterling Tinnin Rodgers after 1915. Willie Mae Bagwell died on 27 May 1997 at age 96.¹ She was buried at Claude Cemetery, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.¹

     Louise Eveline Burton was born on 21 August 1845 in Franklin, Heard County, Georgia.¹ As of 30 January 1868,her married name was Bagwell. She married John Madison Bagwell, son of William Washington Bagwell and Mary Coleman Poole, on 30 January 1868 at Franklin County, Georgia. Louise Eveline Burton died on 10 September 1911 in Rochester, Haskell County, Texas, at age 66.¹ She was buried at Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, Haskell County, Texas.¹

     Charles Albert Bagwell was born on 25 November 1868 in Franklin County, Georgia.¹ He was the son of John Madison Bagwell and Louise Eveline Burton. Charles Albert Bagwell married Frances "Fannie" Kentucky Cox on 27 March 1890 at Iron Rock, Franklin County, Georgia. Charles Albert Bagwell died on 19 June 1921 in Canon City, Franklin County, Georgia, at age 52.¹ He was buried at Oak View Cemetery, Canon, Franklin County, Georgia.¹

     William King Bagwell was born on 30 June 1872 in Franklin County, Georgia. He was the son of John Madison Bagwell and Louise Eveline Burton. William King Bagwell married Allie Terrell on 4 August 1895 at Hill County, Texas. William King Bagwell married Myrtle Sue Farley, daughter of William Lampton Farley, on 6 February 1910 at Haskell County, Texas. William King Bagwell married Bessie Jane Farley, daughter of William Lampton Farley, before 1922 at Haskell County, Texas. William King Bagwell died on 19 February 1946 in Littlefield, Lamb County, Texas, at age 73. He was buried at Littlefield Cemetery, Littlefield, Lamb County, Texas.

     Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr was born on 5 July 1875 in Carnesville, Franklin County, Georgia.¹ He was the son of John Madison Bagwell and Louise Eveline Burton. Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr married Katherine Louise Kennedy on 26 November 1903 at Hill County, Texas. Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr was buried on 3 March 1938 at Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, Haskell County, Texas.¹ He died on 21 May 1938 in Rochester, Hasklell County, Texas, at age 62.¹

     Katherine Louise Kennedy was born on 22 October 1880 in Isom, Maury County, Tennessee.¹ As of 26 November 1903,her married name was Bagwell. She married Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr, son of John Madison Bagwell and Louise Eveline Burton, on 26 November 1903 at Hill County, Texas. Katherine Louise Kennedy died on 17 December 1954 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, at age 74.¹ She was buried on 19 December 1954 at Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, Haskell County, Texas.¹

     John K. Bagwell was born on 1 September 1904 in Haskell, Hasklell County, Texas. He was the son of Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr and Katherine Louise Kennedy. John K. Bagwell married Frances E. Logan before 1940. John K. Bagwell died in August 1987 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana, at age 82.

     Ewell Hayden Bagwell was born on 18 March 1906 in Texas.¹ He was the son of Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr and Katherine Louise Kennedy. Ewell Hayden Bagwell married Edna Sligh in 1942. Ewell Hayden Bagwell died on 22 February 1975 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, at age 68.¹ He was buried at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.¹

     Thomas Belton Bagwell Jr. was born on 2 June 1908 in Haskell, Hasklell County, Texas.¹ He was the son of Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr and Katherine Louise Kennedy. He served as a Private in the US Army during World War II. Thomas Belton Bagwell Jr. died on 26 November 1965 in Tarrant County, Texas, at age 57.¹ He was buried at Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, Haskell County, Texas.¹

     William Reynolds Bagwell was also known as Reynolds Bagwell. He was born on 27 December 1917 in Rochester, Haskell County, Texas.^1,2 He was the son of Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr and Katherine Louise Kennedy. William Reynolds Bagwell married Mable Dovie (?) after 1936.² He served in the US Marine Corps veteran during World War II.² William Reynolds Bagwell married Delores M. Turner on 23 December 1970 at Parker County, Texas. William Reynolds Bagwell died on 4 December 1999 in Big Spring Hospital, Big Spring, Howard County, Texas, at age 81.^1,2 He was buried at Rochester Cemetery, Rochester, Haskell County, Texas.¹

     Charles Robert Bagwell was also known as Bobby Bagwell. He was born on 15 January 1923 in Rochester, Texas. He was the son of Thoms Belton Bagwell Sr and Katherine Louise Kennedy. Charles Robert Bagwell married Zelma Frances Gentry after 1945. Charles Robert Bagwell died on 23 December 1986 in Austin, Travis County, Texas, at age 63.
