On that date, Sergeant Bagwell flew an extremely hazardous mission on which an American pilot downed deep within hostile territory was successfully recovered. Although constantly exposed to intense and accurate ground fire, Sergeant Bagwell silhouetted himself in the open doorway of the helicopter in order to take motion pictures of the entire recovery mission. Odessa was born on August 30, 1926, in Pampa Texas to Hattie Lee Stroope-Tillman and Horace Greeley Tillman. Her father passed away when she was 8 years old. Her family then moved to Groom, Texas and Panhandle, Texas, where she lived for 10 years. She graduated from Groom High School in 1945. Odessa attended church at Panhandle Church of Christ for 10 years and was baptized there at the age of 12. The Stamps family would take them to church, and she will always be thankful to them for that.
Odessa married Hulon Bascomb (Slim) Bagwell on October 2, 1946, in Liberal, Kansas. They lived in Guymon, Oklahoma on the Hitch Ranch. Then they moved to Amarillo in 1949, where they lived in the same house for 50 years. Their family attended South Side/West Church of Christ for 39 years, and then San Jacinto Church of Christ for approximately 10 years. Odessa then became a member of Clarendon Church of Christ where she attended for 20 plus years.
Slim and Odessa were friends with Maurice and Margie for over 50 years. After the loss of both of their spouses, Odessa married Maurice Earl Ray on September 16, 2004. After the two married, Odessa moved to Clarendon full-time.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Hulon Bascomb (Slim) Bagwell, on September 1, 2003; second husband, Maurice Earl Ray, on December 1, 2007; and daughter, Ellen L. Rowell, on March 3, 2022.
She is survived by her children, Linda Ka Pankey and husband Jerry, Henry Bagwell and wife Amy; son-in-law, George Rowell; grandchildren, Shay Myers and husband Brian, of Howardwick, Texas, Pamala Connot and husband Tanner, of China Spring, Texas, Landon Rowell and wife Kristin, of Ramona, Oklahoma, Daylon Rowell and wife Monica, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Chyenne Myers, Alexis Walker, Shane Duck, Ashlyn Rowell, Braden Rowell, Austin Rowell, Walker Rowell, and Kennedy Rowell; two nieces, Sherry Etheridge and Vicki Young; honorary children, Rachel White and Linda Miller; and honorary great-grandchildren, Hannah West, Tabitha Hoadley, and Evelyn West.

Robert was born in Choudrant, LA to the union of Willie M. and Velma O'Neal Bagwell on August 24, 1929 and departed this earthly life in Alexandria, LA on November 18, 2011. A graduate of Louisiana Tech, he was teacher and coach at the Bossier City and Baskin High Schools for seven years. Serving in various capacities with Chemical and Oil and Gas companies seventeen years before becoming employed by the LA Department of Labor in Minden and Natchitoches. He retired in 1990 as Supervisor of the Natchitoches office.
Ordained a Deacon by the Rayne, LA Baptist Church in 1962, he served as an adult Sunday School teacher most of his adult life as well as filling the duties of church treasurer and Deacon.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Alistine Simmons and Mary Grace Ormond. Survivors include Ruby McNair Bagwell, his wife of 58 years; sons William Bagwell and wife Wanda of Scottsdale, AZ and Rev. Richard Bagwell and wife Jana of Auburn, AL; grandchildren Brooke Stephens and husband Mark; Meredith, Kyle, Ross, Mallory and Mark Bagwell; great-grandchild Chloe Stephens; brothers William J. Bagwell and wife Joyce and Bruce B. Bagwell; brother-in-law Phil Simmons and sisters-in-law Mary Eva Bagwell and Nancy Ormond; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons along with Mark Stephens and Howard Way. Honorary pallbearers will be the young men he coached while at Baskin High School.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dr. James O. McNair Scholarship Fund at Louisiana College in Pineville, LA. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the funeral home.
