William David Bagwell was born on 18 December 1946 in Riverside, Riverside County, California. He was the son of Jessey T. Bagwell and Faye Drusilla Titsworth. He served in the US Army. William David Bagwell married Shirley Joyce Collins on 24 June 1967 at Sheridan, Wyoming. William David Bagwell died on 13 September 2010 in Gillette, Campbell County, Wyoming, at age 63

Memorial service for Dave Bagwell will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at New Life Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Wes Smith officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 42. Gillette Memorial Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.

William "Dave" David Bagwell was born Dec. 18, 1946, in Corona, Calif. He was the second of four children born to Jessey T and Drewcilla Faye Bagwell. As a child, his family moved around a lot and he graduated high school in 1964, in Rolla, Kan. During the summers, the Bagwell family would frequent Arvada, Wyo., to harvest the wheat. This was where he met Shirley Collins in 1964, at a dance at 4G Clubhouse.

When the rest of his family returned home in the fall of 1965, he stayed. He worked for Range Telephone until he went into the U.S. Army in 1966. While in the Army, he was a military policeman stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colo., during the Vietnam War.

Dave and Shirley were married June 24, 1967, in Sheridan, Wyo. For the first year of their marriage, he was still stationed at Fort Carson. He returned to Gillette from active duty October 1968, where he and Shirley made their home for the past 43 years. That is where he began his 40-year career in oil pump sales and service.

Dave and Shirley started their family in 1970, when their first daughter Danette Rene was born. In 1972, they welcomed their second daughter, Denise Michelle. In 1978, a year after moving into their present residence in Collins Heights, their son, Ryan David was born.

Dave was a hardworking man who exemplified dignity, honesty, and integrity in everything he did. He withstood the boom and bust of the oil field and after he "retired" from there, he went to work at Buckskin Coal mine. He thoroughly enjoyed three years at the coal mine until he was sent to Denver for leukemia treatment.

As hard as Dave worked, he also played hard, too. He could often be found tinkering on a car or truck, working in the yard, building something for himself or a friend, or playing at the "pig farm." He spent every possible weekend in the summer camping in the Big Horns. Two of his favorite spots were the "old" Tie Hack or Middle Fork. The family would also snowmobile and four wheel in the Big Horns or Arvada, and spent a week in Denver every summer with his brother Wayne, and his family. That is a tradition they continued up until Wayne's death.

Later he bought a Harley and enjoyed several years of cruising until his wreck in the fall of 2005. After that, he bought a Corvette so Shirley could ride with him. The last 17 years of his life were spent following his five grandkids around the state and nation at their various activities and camping with them. Any given week you could find him at a baseball, soccer, football, basketball game or swim meet. He was a spectator, coached, and most often offered words of encouragement - win or lose.

Dave was a man of few words who touched the lives of many people leading by example. On September 13, 2010 Dave lost a hard fought battle with leukemia.

Dave is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley; his brother, Steve Bagwell of Gillette, Wyo; sister, Sondra Burns of Needles, Calif; three children, Danette (Mike) Baldacci of Casper, Wyo., Denise Bagwell and Ryan Bagwell, both of Gillette, Wyo; and six grandchildren, Tanner and Skyler Moser of Gillette, Wyo., Collin, Conner, and Taylor Baldacci of Casper, Wyo., and Talaina Stieg of Sterling, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessey T. and Drewcilla Faye Bagwell, his brother, Wayne Bagwell; and his in-laws, Marion and Edith Collins.

Memorials and condolences may be sent in Dave's name in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel, 210 W. Fifth Street, Gillette, WY 82716 or via the Internet at www.gillettememorialchapel.com.
