Sibyl Elizabeth Bagwell, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, November 5, 2006, at White Oak Estates.

Born in Glendale, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert Fred Bagwell and Sallie Elizabeth (Pearman) Bagwell.

A graduate of Spartanburg High School and Winthrop College, majoring in Home Economics, she began her teaching career at Landrum High School and retired from Cleveland Junior High School. She was a member for 51 years of the Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, serving as president from 1980-1984, and receiving the Order of the Rose in 2002. She was a member of Ben Avon Methodist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Bagwell Shuler of Columbia, SC; a niece, Betty Hauser Hammond of Spartanburg, who was her primary caregiver; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Weldon, Leroy, and Fred Bagwell; and a sister, Reba Hauser.

Visitation was held 1:00-2:30 PM, Friday, November 8, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.

Graveside services followed at 3:00 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Larry R. Hyder.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to a charity or ministry of ones choice.

COLUMBIA - Betty Bagwell Shuler, 92, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020. Born on May 9, 1928 in Columbia, SC she was a daughter of the late Robert Fred Bagwell and Sallie Elizabeth Bagwell. Betty was a graduate of Winthrop University after which she became a teacher for 34 years before retirement. A lady in the truest sense of the word, Betty was always poised and took great pride in her appearance. Adorned with jewelry and pink lipstick it was rare to find a hair out of place. An excellent cook and an even better Bingo player, Betty will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Ernest Shuler; son, Norman Fred Shuler; sister, Sibyl Elizabeth Bagwell; and brother, Fred Bagwell. Left to cherish her memory are her two grandsons, Robert Shuler and Jeffery Shuler; niece, Sibyl Cooper (Ransom); as well as several other nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Betty's dear caregiver, friend, and companion, Patricia Wilson.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 23 at 2:00 pm in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Rd. Columbia, SC 29209.

She married William Henry Bagwell, son of Frederick Franklin Bagwell and Nancy Caroline Gaines, before 1869. Margaret Jane McClary died on 23 February 1889 at age 39.1 She was buried at Gaines Cemetery, Greenville County, South Carolina.1
