John Wayne was an avid collector of "hot-rods" cars, loved going to car shows, especially every year to Auto Rama in Detroit, MI as a child. He enjoyed, with his family, Swap Meets at Freedom Hill, and he was crazy about his motorcycles. He enjoyed many vacations with his family, and had a special love for the Smokey Mountains. He enjoyed entertaining and loved to sing, he also loved a good word search puzzle. He loved his family and his very special dog Hoover. John Wayne was also a member of Pipefitters Local 636 Union. He graduated in 1966 from Detroit High School in Detroit, Michigan and was a journeymen pipefitter for over 30 years. He will be loved and missed very much. John Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Shirley Bagwell, father, John Robert Bagwell, grandson, Tyler Bagwell He is survived by three children, daughter, Stacy Bagwell Firu; sons, Jonathan Robert (Krystin) Bagwell and Jayson Wayne Bagwell; grandchildren, Malin, Roman, Jayden, Sarah and Vanessa. A Celebration of John Wayne's life will be held at Magnolia Funeral Home, 507 West Main Street, Hartford, Alabama 36344, on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, 11:00 A.M. with visitation one hour prior to service. Dewey worked for over 30 years as a Lab Technician at the Texaco Refinery in Port Arthur and he was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp from 1958 until 1961 during the Vietnam Era, where he went on to receive the Good Conduct Medal and an Honorable Discharge.
Dewey was a simple man who worked hard. He enjoyed building things by way of carpentry, such as bird houses and swing sets for his family. He also enjoyed working in his yard and listening to his daughter Victoria sing.
Dewey is preceded in death by his mother, his father and his son, Steven C. Bagwell.
Those who will most treasure his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Donna J. Bagwell of Orange, his daughter, Victoria Bagwell of Orange, his sons, Michael Earl Johnson of Scapposse, Oregon, Charles Bagwell of Portland, Oregon, David Dingler of Kelso, Washington and Michael Carter of Orange, Texas, his sister, Anita Jane Doucet of Hot Springs, Arkansas, his brother, Fred Allen Bagwell and wife, Kathy of San Marcos, Texas, twenty-three grandchildren including Ghonnathan Bagwell, currently enlisted in the United States Army, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Dewey is also survived by his numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside committal service to honor Dewey’s life will be at 1pm Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Mary Williams Cemetery on Oilla Road in the Orangefield community.
Officiating will be Chaplain Robert Pitre with Compassion Hospice in Beaumont. Also present to Honor Dewey’s Military Service will be the Southeast Texas Veterans Service Group.3 He was buried at Guedry Cemetery, Batson, Hardin County, Texas.3

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was an active member of the Nolan D. Pickett Post VFW in Liberty. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and carpentry work. R.J. was retired from the City of Liberty where he served as the City Building Official.
R.J. was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and nine brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Deede Bagwell; two sons: Michael Royal Bagwell and wife Sheryl, and Richard Timothy Bagwell and wife Pat; two daughters, Patty Wadenpfuhl and husband, Sonny, and Tammy Kathleen Bagwell. In addition he leaves eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was buried at Guedry Cemetery, Batson, Hardin County, Texas.
