     Ruby Mae Pendergraph was born on 8 May 1925. As of 18 January 1951,her married name was Bagwell. She married John Riles Bagwell Jr., son of John Riles Bagwell Sr. and Grace Viola Covington, on 18 January 1951 at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. Ruby Mae Pendergraph died on 16 July 2010 at age 85
Mrs. Ruby Bagwell, 85, passed away Friday afternoon at her home in Durham.

Mrs. Bagwell was born in Hillsborough, N.C. to the late Ada And Bunn Pendergraph. She is also preceded in death by her late husband Big John R. Bagwell, Jr., two brothers, Cub Pendergraph and Wink Pendergraph, and two sisters, Artelia Watkins and Tot Porter.

Ruby devoted her life to caring for others. She was Director for the Friendly Rest Home, where she made it her mission to care for those who had "lived good long lives" and ensure their comfort at the end.

After retiring, she devoted herself to caring for her grandchildren. She gave the same dedication to her grandchildren that she did to her elderly residents. She showered them with a special love, meeting them at the bus stop everyday, reading to them, brushing their hair until it shone, and always being a ready and willing playmate.

The grandchildren especially enjoyed celebrating birthdays her way since she brought gifts for all.

We will miss her greatly, especially her smile, noted by a grandchild's friend as one of the top five best smiles ever. However, we find comfort in knowing the Big John is happy that she finally responded to his call, "Ruby, are you ready to go? Get in the truck if you're going with me."

The family wishes to thank Sylvia Beck and Duke Hospice for helping us give Ruby the type of care she showed to everyone in her life.

Mrs. Bagwell is survived by her two sons, Kirk Bagwell and wife, Cindy; and John Bagwell, III; two brothers, Bobby Pendergraph and wife, Theo; and Frank Pendergraph and wife, Ramona; two sisters, Lovey Riley, and Julia Morris; five grandchildren, Kirk, Amber, Cassie, JR, Tate and wife, Shelley; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 19 at Clements Funeral Home in Durham with Rev. Tom Hehenberger officiating.

Burial will follow at Markham Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends this evening -- Sunday -- from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

Harvey “Kirk” Bagwell, 68, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at his home in Durham. He was born in Durham to the late John Riles Bagwell, Jr. and Ruby Mae Bagwell.

Kirk spent much of his career building custom homes with his father and brother at Bagwell Builders, a company owned by his father. He worked in maintenance for Wake County Schools until he retired in 2017.

Kirk is survived by his wife, Cindy Bagwell; daughters, Amber Cagle, and Cassie Clark; son, Kirk Bagwell, II; grandchildren, Warren, Walter, Waylon, Carter, and Ruby; and brother, John Riles Bagwell III.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 26th at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

     John Riles Bagwell III is the son of John Riles Bagwell Jr. and Ruby Mae Pendergraph. John Riles Bagwell III married Patricia Morgan Greene on 21 August 1982 at Durham County, North Carolina. John Riles Bagwell III and Patricia Morgan Greene were divorced on 13 May 1985 at Durham County, North Carolina.

     Beulah Herod was also known as Beulah Mae Smithey. She was born on 4 November 1935 in Union County, Mississippi. As of before 1967,her married name was Bagwell. She married Jimmie Carroll "J.C" Bagwell Sr., son of John Quincy Bagwell and Edna Earl Foster, before 1967. Beulah Herod died on 17 June 2016 in New Albany, Union County, Mississippi, at age 80. She was buried at Glenfield Memorial Park, New Albany, Union County, Mississippi.

     Paul Kevin Bagwell was born on 12 September 1967. He was the son of Jimmie Carroll "J.C" Bagwell Sr. and Beulah Herod. Paul Kevin Bagwell died on 12 October 1984 at age 17. He was buried at Glenfield Memorial Park, New Albany, Union County, Mississippi.

     J. Thomas Rodgers was born on 23 June 1911. He married Mary Ozella Bagwell, daughter of Thomas Hape Bagwell and Mary Kathrine Gordon, after 1928. J. Thomas Rodgers died on 13 December 1984 at age 73. He was buried at Blue Mountain Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, Blue Mountain, Tippah County, Mississippi.

     Nina Starr was born on 21 October 1905. As of after 1923,her married name was Bagwell. She married Carlton Layfayette Bagwell, son of Giles Lafayette Bagwell and Sara Isabelle Morgan, after 1923. Nina Starr died on 6 December 1993 at age 88. She was buried at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery, Carnesville, Franklin County, Georgia.

     Martha Jean Bagwell was born on 10 April 1930 in Georgia. She was the daughter of Carlton Layfayette Bagwell and Nina Starr. As of before 1962,her married name was Wallace. Martha Jean Bagwell married (?) Wallace before 1962. Martha Jean Bagwell died on 16 April 1995 at age 65. She was buried at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery, Carnesville, Franklin County, Georgia.

Brentwood - Harvey M. Bagwell, Sr., age 72, passed away from this life on August 3, 2019 in Brentwood, TN. He served for over 23 years in the National Guard, and retired from St. Thomas Medical Center after working for 20+ years as a biomedical engineer.

Surviving is a daughter, Melissa A. (John) Mathis; son, Harvey Michael Bagwell, Jr; sister, Susan E. (Mike) Sanders; brother, Stephen M. Bagwell; and three grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Clarence Bagwell and Harvey S. Bagwell; sister, Linda M. Bagwell; and Guadalupe "Lupe" Veloz Goodman, mother of his children.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 at eleven thirty in the morning in Woodlawn's Dignity Hall.

     Stephen Bagwell is the son of Harvey Greely Bagwell Jr. and Clarene Jones.

     Clara Belle Bridgeman was born on 30 December 1926 in Travelers Rest, Greenville County, South Carolina.¹ As of 1944,her married name was Bagwell. She married Garnett Ralph Bagwell, son of Homer Lester Bagwell Sr. and Mentora May Worley, in 1944. Clara Belle Bridgeman died on 9 March 2010 in Greenville County, South Carolina, at age 83
Clara Bridgeman Cox, of 8 Lenhardt Court, Greenville, passed away March 9, 2010 at Open Arms Hospice House in Simpsonville.

Although she had failing health for the last two years, she never lost her feisty spirit and sense of humor. She was 83 years old.

A prominent business woman for more than fifty years, she is best remembered as the owner of White Horse Tax Service, and continued to work there until 2005.

Ms. Cox was born in Travelers Rest, SC to the late Vincie Ann Howard and Richard William Bridgeman. She was the youngest of seven children and was the last surviving member of her family. She graduated from Travelers Rest High School in 1943 and was an active and long-time member of Tanglewood Baptist Church in Greenville.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Jones Magee and her husband Bob, of Waxhaw, NC, and Kay Cook and her husband, Larry, of Troutman, NC; a son, Dennis Patrick Cox of Greenville; grandchildren, Douglas Sprayberry, David Jones, and Ronnie Redmond, all of Greenville, Chase Bagwell of Troutman, NC, Pam Staton of Woodruff, and Robyn Jones Jennings of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves behind her caregivers and dear friends, Barbara Yount and Dot Gillespie; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and six siblings, Ms. Cox was preceded in death by a son, David Bagwell, a daughter, Brenda Redmond, and two granddaughters, Theresa Sprayberry Howe and Rhonda Michelle Bagwell.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Tanglewood Baptist Church, Greenville, with the Reverends David Osborne and Shane Donald officiating.

Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Travelers Rest, SC.

Memorials may be made to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC, 29680.

The family will be at the home of Ms. Cox, 8 Lenhardt Court, Greenville.

Clarene Jones died on 12 October 2011 at age 86.¹ She was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.¹

     Susan Bagwell is the daughter of Harvey Greely Bagwell Jr. and Clarene Jones. Susan Bagwell married Mike Sanders after 1965.

She married Earl Taylor Bagwell, son of Herbert Bagwell and Willie Gladys Kavanaugh, after 1955. Mary Lucy Wright died on 3 April 2018 at age 79. She was buried at Mount Patrick Cemetery, Bernice, Union Parish, Louisiana.

     Ronald Earl Bagwell was born on 11 July 1957. He was the son of Earl Taylor Bagwell and Mary Lucy Wright. Ronald Earl Bagwell died on 21 May 1967 at age 9. He was buried at Sardis Cemetery, Farmerville, Union Parish, Louisiana.

     Sims (?) married Debra Bagwell, daughter of Earl Taylor Bagwell and Mary Lucy Wright, after 1995.

     Margaret McMullen was born in 1892 in Georiga.¹ As of after 1913,her married name was Bagwell. She married Wilton Broadus Bagwell, son of John Mansell Bagwell and Sarah Edna Moore, after 1913. Margaret McMullen died on 15 June 1964 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.¹ She was buried at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.¹

     Elsie Hemphill was born on 8 May 1897 in North Carolina. As of after 1915,her married name was Bagwell. She married James Alfred Bagwell, son of John Mansell Bagwell and Sarah Edna Moore, after 1915. Elsie Hemphill died on 22 January 1977 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia, at age 79. She was buried at East View Cemetery, East Atlanta, DeKalb County, Georgia.

     Homer Bagwell was born in September 1892. He was the son of George Washington Boyd Bagwell and Sallie H. Spears.

     Nova Alla Blanton was also known as Nora Alla Blanton. She was born in 1886 in Cook County, Texas. As of 20 May 1908,her married name was Bagwell. She married William Madison Bagwell, son of George Washington Boyd Bagwell and Sallie H. Spears, on 20 May 1908 at Texas. Nova Alla Blanton and William Madison Bagwell lived in 1954 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Nova Alla Blanton died on 7 September 1967 in Orlando, Florida. She was buried at Shady Rest Cemetery, Holly Hill, Volusia County, Florida.¹

     William Blanton Bagwell was born on 28 February 1914 in Texas.¹ He was the son of William Madison Bagwell and Nova Alla Blanton. William Blanton Bagwell married Florence (?) before 1942. He served in the US Army Air Force from 3 December 1943 to 14 November 1945 in the 150TH TB IRTC. William Blanton Bagwell died on 30 May 1954 in Alachua General Hospital, Gainesville, Florida, at age 40.¹ He was buried at Oakdale Cemetery, Deland, Florida.¹

     Archie Boyd Bagwell was born on 30 October 1918 in Memphis, Hall County, Texas. He was the son of William Madison Bagwell and Nova Alla Blanton. He was a Navy veteran, enlisting in 2 September 1941 and released on 14 October 1945, serving during World War II. He relenlisted in the Navy on September 29 1950 and then again on April 3, 1953. Archie Boyd Bagwell married Margaret Jean Tresher on 16 May 1942 at Seminole County, Florida. Archie Boyd Bagwell married Leona Evelyn Flowers on 5 November 1977 at Volusia County, Florida. Archie Boyd Bagwell died on 20 September 1986 in Port Orange, Volusia County, Florida, at age 67.
