Nell Dean Knight Bagwell, 77, of Gruver died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.
Services will be Thursday, Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Gruver United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Chappell, pastor, officiating. A public viewing well be held in the Gruver United Methodist Church Parlor on Dec. 26 from 3-6 p.m.
Nell Dean was born Aug. 7, 1935 in Groom, Texas to John Richard Cornell Knight and Ruth Alberta Barton Knight. She married Leon Bagwell July 9, 1954 in Tucumcari, N.M.
They lived in Gruver for 47 years and Nell Dean was a pillar of her community, church, and her family.
Nell Dean was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church and of their Methodist Women's Group. Nell Dean also worked for many years at the Appraisal District in Spearman and the hardware store in Gruver. She was an exceptional mother to her two daughters and one son, grandmother to five grandchildren, and great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren. Nell Dean will be remembered as a woman of spirit and also kindness, spark and also love, sharp wit and also faith.
Nell Dean was the first to lend a hand and to offer a prayer, as well as the first in line to cheer for the Dallas Cowboys and to play games with her children and grandchildren. She was a masterful homemaker and cook - her community and her family are going to miss her time-perfected recipes and her joyous heart. We are all better off for her having been in our lives.
Nell Dean is survived by her husband Leon Bagwell of Gruver; sister Doris Slocum of Amarillo; two daughters Toni and her husband Phil Atwood of Gruver and Terri and her husband Lynn Newsom of Perryton; son Toby and his wife Kristi Bagwell of Claude, Texas; grandson Ryon and his wife Alexis Atwood of Hale Center, Texas; granddaughters Randi and her husband DJ Warrick of Canyon, Texas, Kaki and her husband Kyle Nicotre of College Station, Texas, Berkley and her husband Daniel Beluska of Dallas, and Rylee Bagwell of Claude; great-grandchildren Scout Atwood, Logan Warrick, and Nellie Bell Nicotre; and three nephews Larry Lamberson of Amarillo, George Slocum of Amarillo, and Dale Steinkirchner of Pennsylvania.
Donations in Nell Dean's memory can be made to the Gruver United Methodist Church at 506 Broadway Street, Gruver TX 79040 and Hansford Hospice at 707 South Roland, Spearman, TX 79081. Flowers in her memory may also be sent to the Gruver United Methodist Church. Services are under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
She was buried at Gruver Cemetery, Gruver, Hansford County, Texas.
